No longer at ease
As we went to shut down last year, we would like to reopen the discussions and continue where we left of. We would then start looking at the question of Leadership topic where we left of last year. Most will remember the one we were busy with that tackled the collection of: - The history of ANC and South Africa twenty years later; Tribute to the Heads; South African role to the global village; Mzantsi two sides of the same coin; and many others that looked at Africa, SADC community; Bricsa; NEPAD; What will happen now since Brother-leader is no longer there, who will lead the African agenda in the UN? and many more topics that we see fit.
This will then serve as some introduction to Africa....
We then look at T.S Eliot's "Journey of the Magi" when he wrote...
'We returned to our places, these Kingdoms,
But no longer at ease here, in the old dispensation,
With an alien people clutching their gods.
I should be glad of another death'
An extract from Chinua Achebe's book "NO LONGER AT EASE"
Achebe became one of the inspiration and influence to our contributions to the soul of the poor African soul after colonialism. He has looked at why leaders in Nigeria failed to become servants of their people instead became corrupt and did not serve the constituencies they represented. Some of the topics that Achebe looked at are still relevant to the way of life that is faced by ordinary Africans.
Concluding today's contribution we thought that we should also include an extract again from Achebe to set the tone....
"Leave me not behind Jesus, wait for me,
When I am going to the farm.
Leave me not behind Jesus, wait for me,
When I am going to the market.
Leave me not behind Jesus, wait for me,
When I am eating my food.
Leave me not behind Jesus, wait for me,
When I am having my bath.
Leave me not behind Jesus, wait for me,
When I am going to the White man's country,
Leave him not behind Jesus, wait for him.
