The long walk
I'm a simple man. In this ever changing world, with so many distractions, constant barrage of information, whether social or otherwise, that often times reduces complex issues into tag lines, I humbly leave the deeper, intellectual discourse to those far more intelligent than me. What I have learned, in very short order, as we have explored how to more deeply contribute to minimize the Digital Divide - that is, the divide that arises in our underserved communities and is exposed profoundly in the pandemic as student learning has switched to a virtual environment - is the depth of the multi-faceted issues that have prolonged for a very long time. The issues are so confounding that it can leave one in a catatonic state or feel as though whatever steps one takes to help, simply is insufficient or worse, not helpful. But as a simple man processing the complex, I know this - help is needed. So those of us who can lend a helping hand in whatever measure we can should engage, continue and press forward. There are remarkable people from all walks of life and organizations working daily to help our underserved communities that transcends politics, philosophies and policy disagreements. In the end, as a simple man, for me it comes down to this question that we each must answer for ourselves. Are we engaging to help in whatever measure we can so our collective tomorrow can be better than today?
