A long time coming.
Marketing news and tips for the week of November 18th, 2024
It has been a while since I landed in your inbox.
It hasn’t felt right to hit send on this newsletter over the last few months. There was too much going on personally with my mother’s passing in July. So, I stopped writing the newsletter as the creative content juices just weren’t there for me. But they’ve slowly started to come back and I’ve missed writing the newsletter.
So, here I am again and plan to be weekly.
Thank you for hanging around and if you are reading today an extra special thank you.
Something to think about this week ??
This summer I went for a walk with a friend who also happens to be a marketer. When we met she showed me a video from Julie Story that made her laugh. After I watched it my (marketing) wheels started to turn.
How could this type of creative approach work for Gather Society , the women in business event series I co-founded?
Most events that I know tend to follow the same marketing approach. Graphics promoting speakers are created and shared. Some social media posts about why people should attend the event. You’ve probably seen them.
Anyways, watching this one video from Julie Story led us to a collaboration with a woman I know who is funny and incredibly supportive of women-led businesses. We created a series of humorous Reels together that generated some great and fun engagement. It also translated into us selling out our Fall event recently.
So, my question to you this week is how can you take a different and unexpected creative angle to something you are marketing?
And if you want to see the videos, head over to our Instagram.

Listen to this podcast episode from Think Fast, Talk Smart. It’s a great listen especially if you’ve been struggling with how to communicate your story authentically online.
This podcast host also has a great marketing tactic at the end of his podcast that works. Do you know what it is?
PS: Actually subscribe to this podcast. It’s my new favourite.

In the podcast recommendation above, the host asked Alan Alda this question:
What makes a good question? Alda’s answer:
“I would be delighted if you would ask me a question that you’re curious about.”
People are always curious, so how can you weave curiosity into your content this week?
And just because you made it this far ?
Create the things you wished existed because who else will?
