A long term vision. Driven by fear or by virtue?

More and more people are losing their jobs as a result of this pandemic.

Big and small corporations are laying off people as the demand for their products and services is being shrunk to unprecedented levels.

Both corporations and consumers will have less to spend and will use every euro/dollar for what really matters (addictions aside).

Perhaps the greatest lesson that this pandemic is teaching us is that our economic model was fundamentally based on an irrealistic projection of continuous growth of mostly self inflicted and often unnecessary needs.

Reality is teaching us that the paradigm of constant GDP growth is not only illusory but also detrimental for the health of our species if we continue to bet on luck and unawareness.

What is real stays what is fake disappears.

Never before we have had such an opportunity to create a new economic model based on real necessities, sustainability and cooperation.

Local economies will take back a share of the market so far swallowed by the big players as no community can ever depend solely on the ability of the large players sitting on the other side of the world to deliver all at home.

Individuals as well as communities prosper in an healthy, free, self sufficient and cooperative environment. Why should the new economic model be based on any different criteria?

The attention to a healthy environment is not to protect a piece of land or a polluted river as an act of kindness toward a "thing", a thousand kilometers away from home, but to protect ourselves as a spieces if we want to drink clear water and eat unpoisoned food. This is real not fake.

Being free is essential to be creative and fulfilled. No one can ever be free if it doens't realize that when buying a t-shirt for a dollar is carrying its own guillottine. Freedom is true when it is not gained at the expense of workers being exploited on the other side of the world with few rights and desperate needs to survive.

Freedom is real when is not gained at the expense of others but when it enables everyone to move away from need.

Being self sufficient is paramount to be able to help. More than ever before we need help so, cooperative and self sufficient communites are necessary not only to be safe but also to help others. The Countries that have been able to help those in need are those that were better equipped and ready to take care of themselves first. That is real not fake.

The global economy makes sense when it doesn kill the local ones. It doesn't exploit the poorest countries workers to win a share of the market in the richest countries who are so excited to buy cheap stuff.

Sustainability and cooperation is what works. That is real not fake.

Technology can help us tremendously but we desperately need to move away from greed and focus on growth. To acquire the concept of authentic growth we need awareness first.

The new economic model will tell us whether we have grown in this path or we are still trapped into the logic of competition to make profits no matter what.

Leaders, as the representative of our level awareness as a species, will tell us how far we have gone in this journey.

Whether we will be able to define a long term sustainable and cooperative vision by virtue or by fear it doesn't seem a big deal to me provided that we get there.

Whatever triggers our awareness is welcomed.
