The Long Term

The Long Term

Today's devotional is from Life Is a Goldmine: Can You Dig It?

"In the eleventh year in the month of Bul, the eighth month, the temple was finished in all its details according to its specifications. He had spent seven years building it" - 1 Kings 6:38.

Solomon built the Temple of the Lord as his father David had directed him to do. When you read the verses before this one, you see how detailed the plans were. Again we see that something great for the Lord didn't just happen, but required a lot of goals and plans to go along with it. What's more, the job wasn't finished in a day, but took seven years! That's a long-term goal for sure.

What are your long-term goals? How long are you prepared to work on something to see it come to pass? What plans do you have to go along with your goals, or are you simply waiting on the Lord to do what only you can do?

Lord, I've sometimes had a short-term mentality, looking to what I can do in a month or a year. Give me a bigger dream that will require bigger goals that will necessitate bigger plans and take a longer time. I want to live for something beyond me that, by Your grace, will still be around after me.
