For making habits stick long-term, I feel there are a few elements that need to work together...
1) Your Values & Priorities...
Do you truly value the benefits of your long-term habit you are establishing?
2) Awareness...
Are you going through life on mental auto-pilot? Or are you "intentionally" going through life, appreciating more meaning from the moments you have?
3) A "Cue" or "Prompt" Behavior...
Do you have a behavior activity that you routinely do, that you can add your small habit right after it??
For me, a daily good Cue behavior for me is making coffee at home or at work. Then once I make the coffee, I immediately take action on the new habit (i.e. exercising, drink water, read a book, bible devotion, pray, meditate, etc.).
3.1) Hack...
Using awareness, while starting a tiny habit, you can also test out adding in the habit before the Cue or Prompt activity. This will create a "Push / Pull" motivation effect. As an example, in my case, I would take a small action of "exercising for 5-min" or "read for a short period" first... before I make my coffee. This may work better for some people. So test it out. ???

9 个月Fantastic article, Cory Dunham??! My tiny habit is a cup of tea in the morning. It gets me in the right frame of mind to take on the day (or maybe it's the caffeine). Either way, if I miss this habit the day just doesn't start quite right.
