Long Roof Lust: Audi A6 Avant e-tron Concept

Quick: what’s the best-looking station wagon you’ve ever seen? A classic E30 BMW? An off-road ready Volvo XC70 Overlander? Whatever your answer is, if it’s not the new Audie A6 Avant e-tron we’ll just assume it’s because you’ve never seen it.

Audi is calling its latest long-roof concept “the storage champion”, and the design is simply stunning. Presented as part of its 2022 Annual Media Conference, the A6 Avant e-tron Concept foreshadows the next model in the brand’s electrically powered future.

At 4.96 meters (16.3 ft.) long, 1.96 meters (6.4 ft.) wide, and 1.44 meters (4.7 ft.) high, the A6 Avant e-tron’s body dimensions put it in the luxury class – and, interestingly, are nearly identical to the existing A6 Sportback?e-tron already in production. If you’re one to read between the lines, the message encoded therein is this:?the production version will look a lot like this

“With the Audi A6 Avant?e-tron?concept, we are offering a completely tangible look at future production models on our new PPE technology platform,” explains Audi’s Board Member for Technical Development, Oliver Hoffmann. “We’re not just electrifying the Avant’s successful 45-year history. What we want most of all is to use technical skill to add an exclamation point. In particular, this includes powerful 800 volt technology, 270 kW of charging capacity, and a WLTP range of up to 700 kilometers.”

700 kilometers is about 435 miles to us here in the US – and that is a whole lot of range, especially considering the Audi’s efficient fast-charging and access to the Electrify America charging network. How fast are we talking??With its 800 volt system and a charging capacity of up to 270 kW, the Audi A6 e-tron models can take add about 300 kilometers of range (186 miles) in as little as 10 minutes.

You read that right. Ten minutes. That’s not even enough time for the cute barista to spell your name wrong at the coffee shop!

You Know How It Is

Our man Cark will feel better as soon as he walks back out to his A6 Avant e-tron, though. Audi sums up its design cues nicely, writing about the “large 22-inch wheels and short overhangs, the flat cabin, and a dynamic roof arch give the Avant proportions that are distinctly reminiscent of a sports car. The absence of hard edges results in smooth transitions between convex and concave surfaces throughout the body, as well as in soft shadows … the gently backward sloping roof arch with the slanted D-pillar is a typical feature of Audi Avant window design. The eye-catching quattro wheel arches effectively accentuate the width of the body and are simultaneously integrated organically into the side surfaces.”

They say that if you can walk into a building without looking back at your car one last time you may have bought the wrong car. Audi has worked very hard to make sure A6 Avant e-tron buyers will look back. A few times!

Truly is jaw-dropping gorgeous. Let’s hope Audi actually produces it.
