Long Black Feathers
In spite of the near non-stop drizzle which turned into light rain this afternoon, I did manage to have an over-all productive day. Of course I wasn't very happy when having to be out in it while wearing my good shoes which have leather soles that absorb the moisture. For sure I wouldn't have worn them if I knew we were going to have rain like today's.
Before heading over to my Clear Lake showing, I stopped by to see how my friend was doing, and thankfully she's progressing along to where her health will soon be back to normal. There's no question it's been a rough seven days, but I believe the most positive thing coming out of all of this, is it being a wakeup call which has given her a good idea of what happens when people don't take care of themselves. As I've said many times, “From bad things come good things as long as we reach for them.”
My showing at my lakeshore listing went very well to where there'll likely be a second viewing, so I'll be keeping my fingers crossed on the final outcome. I'll freely say the most remarkable thing that happened while I was there, was having something said to me which was completely out of line, and unfortunately the selling agent heard what was said, which soon-after triggered a few comments which rang very true, and that being, our country lives by double standards where women can get away with saying inappropriate things to men, but if the tables were turned, there'd be grounds for harassment charges to be filed. Of course yours truly's clever response was, “It wouldn't be the first or last time.”, and left it at that.
By the time I got back from Clear Lake, I had just enough time to grab a bite to eat and then head over to my afternoon continuing education class which was being held in the second floor meeting room of our historic museum. Oh my gosh! That was the very first time I was in that room, and you can be sure I seated myself as close as possible to that bank of windows which faces the canopy of trees and lush garden below. Of course I couldn't help noticing there were Virginia Creeper vines growing in the high canopies of those ancient oak trees, which should've been cut off from the ground likely years ago. I'm sure those vines are weakening the growth cycles of those trees. Truth be told, I could've spent the entire day admiring all of that natural greenery.
Since most people have no clue regarding the history of the MacNider Art Museum, I spent a little time sharing the history of that gorgeous structure. First of all, it was built as a residence for one of the MacNiders, and after that it was offered as a long-time residence for the PBVM Order of Catholic nuns who taught at St. Joseph's School which at the time, covered all the grades from kindergarten thru 12th. With the MacNider house being just across Willow Creek from St. Joseph's School, the nuns would use the bridge to get back and forth from school. Oh by the way, 'PBVM' stood for Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, and let me tell you, my experiences with them had me convinced they were one of the most strict Orders in North Iowa, because corporal punishment was freely and openly given for even the slightest of misconducts. Thank goodness I learned very quickly not to ruffle any of their long black feathers.

The home we listed on 6th St. SW last week is already under contract, and hopefully my listing on S. Pennsylvania Ave. will be under contract by the end of the day tomorrow, which brings me back to being thankful and grateful for the business our office receives.
While in my class today, several of the Realtors mentioned how much their customers are not likely our required buyers' contracts, which comes as no surprise because I'm not so sure they're fully up to speed with how to handle them. Yes, they're a bit cumbersome, but I do my best to explain the options they have. I'm sure in time, we'll grow accustomed to them.
Without a doubt, having to be in class all afternoon, made my day a very long one, so hopefully after a good night's rest, I'll be fully rejuvenated for another full day tomorrow.
Tonight's One-liner is: We must all remember we have freedom of choice.
