Working alone can be lonely. I often feel disconnected, enjoying the lack of interruptions and also craving someone to share things with.
Welcome to the 8th day of my 30-day story challenge!?
Working alone can be lonely. I often feel disconnected, enjoying the lack of interruptions and also craving someone to share things with. When I spoke with Vicky Saunders, CEO of Coralus (formerly SheEO), about the solopreneur focused Coralus pod I will lead, she said that as long as I referred to myself as a solopreneur I was going to feel alone. That hit home. It’s true - I was removing myself from my communities every time I thought of myself as a solopreneur, every time I thought of myself as alone. I was creating my own reality - the reality that I was solo and therefore alone.
So now I’m working to create a new reality. A reality where I feel connected. A reality where I nurture relationships and feel part of something bigger, sharing my life, my wins, and my roadblocks with others. I can choose how much of their advice to incorporate into my decisions, and I don’t have to do any of this alone.
I remind myself to build relationships with people whose lives will change because of working with me, and I am open to my life changing because of the people I interact with.
Coralus has been one of my core communities for many years now. Everyone involved is interested in social impact, in thrival, in decolonizing our economy, in nurturing an economy where gender and race no longer determine our outcomes. It’s a vibrant community, living into the idea of creating positive disruptions and bringing people who share our values along with us.

Now we’re trying something new - pods. For the next 6 months everyone in each pod of 5ish people will meet monthly to focus on that pod’s topic. We will build relationships and ideas that will outlast the pod, and then move fluidly to another pod to try something else new with a new group of folks. I’m so excited to lead one pod and participate in another. Will you join us?
What community connections will you nurture today? How will you use your dragon curiosity to find a path forward?
REQUEST: Join one of the Coralus pods before 3p Pacific Time on September 6. If you’re working for yourself, consider joining the one I lead: Cultivating Values Aligned Profit and Challenging Colonial Business Practices.
P.S. You may have noticed that I missed a few days of my 30-day challenge commitment. Well, the best laid plans and all that. I’m back.
