Theme parks are well-oiled machines that bring in millions of dollars in profit no matter the economic climate. But as the world evolves and people’s entertainment needs change, theme parks and resorts need to adapt as well. The London Resort fully sets its eyes into the future with the next generation theme park and resort that we deserve – world-class, immersive, and sustainable.
Set to open in 2024 in the banks of the River Thames, The London Resort is touted as the most sustainable theme park in the world. It features six lands meant to showcase rides and attractions based on iconic films and entertainment content drawn from the rich Intellectual Property of its partners BBC, ITV Studios, and Paramount Pictures.
“We have three guidelines we work to when it comes to developing attractions,” said PY Gerbeau, Chief Executive of London Resort Company Holdings (LRCH). “Number one is innovation. We’re not here to copy what’s been done before even if it has been successful. Number two is relevance. We need to consider that the customers of today will not be the customers of 2024. And the third is flexibility. We need to create a park that can evolve and adapt easily.”
Innovative & Immersive First Class Theme Park
The London Resort is one of the most ambitious projects of its kind in Europe since the opening of Disneyland Paris in 1992. In terms of scale, it will be built from scratch in a 535-acre site which is the equivalent to 136 Wembley Stadiums. It is going to be a two-park resort – the first phase opens in 2024 and the second one in 2029.
The IP Partners are crucial to The London Resort’s strategy on creating an immersive entertainment destination that is truly timeless and memorable. Paramount is home to classic and blockbuster films like The Godfather, Star Trek, The Italian Job, the Mission: Impossible franchise, and post-apocalyptic hit, A Quiet Place. Meanwhile, BBC Studios and ITV Studios licensed their kids brands to create unique and awe-inspiring experiences fit for the entire family. Fans of Doctor Who and Sherlock Holmes will enjoy exploring the worlds of their favourite characters.
The park will have seven sections starting with "The High Street" lined with shops, restaurants, hotels, a Convention Centre, and a first-class waterpark. After walking through The High Street, the full magical experience begins. The six lands include: The Studios, The Woods, The Kingdom, The Isles, The Jungle, and The Transport.
The Studios feature high-octane rides and heart-pumping action inspired by blockbuster films. The Woods takes you to an enchanted realm of beloved fairy tale characters blurring fantasy and reality. The Kingdom transports you to the Arthurian legends inhabited by knights, sorcerers, and dragons. The Isles are filled with mythical beasts and legendary creatures sure to ignite your imagination especially with state-of-the-art technology for immersive rides.
The Jungle takes you to the overgrown ruins of an ancient and long-lost civilisation. Finally, The Starport takes you to the future promising sci-fi adventures and alien encounters.
Scenic Site With Green Networks
The London Resort will not only rise in a strategic and scenic location beside the River Thames, it will also utilise green networks to take advantage of the many modes of transport in the most eco-friendly way. This brownfield site will be regenerated and enhanced to bring vibrance into the region.
The main Project site is located in the county of Kent, boroughs of Dartford and Gravesham, and within Ebbsfleet Garden City. North of the River, the site lies within Thurrock, in the historic county of Essex. The area is connected to a new dedicated access road to the A2, including easy access from Ebbsfleet International station.
It already has excellent links to public transport which makes it easier for visitors and tourists to travel to the resort. It’s just 17 minutes to central London by train, and provides transport options to the rest of the country and mainland Europe. Aside from the rail system, it’s also possible to maximise the use of the River Thames for a more scenic way to travel. People can choose to walk, cycle, travel by bus or train.
The way to the resort will also be an adventure in itself. The project’s green network will incorporate areas of environmental enhancement as well as wildlife habitat creation beside the River Thames.
Sustainable and Environmentally Responsible
Finally, The London Resort places sustainability as the core of their vision. They are targeting a Net Zero emissions goal by exploring fresh and innovative ways of integrating sustainable and low-carbon principles into all aspects of their operations.
To achieve this goal, The London Resort has partnered up with EDF Energy, the leading energy solutions provider and UK's largest producer of low-carbon electricity. EDF Energy will build, own, and operate the onsite renewable energy generation and storage facilities for the London Resort which will supply all of the park’s energy requirements.
