LoJack LE Assists with Recovery of Stolen 2024 Audi A6 in Yucaipa, CA
A bold car theft in Yucaipa, California, turned into a high-speed pursuit after two suspects stole a 2024 Audi A6, valued at $48,000, right from the owner's driveway. The victim had left the car running with the key fob inside to warm up – an opportunity the thieves couldn't resist.
Realizing his mistake too late, the owner dialed 911, and a deputy from the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Office arrived to investigate. The victim had one key advantage: the stolen Audi was equipped with a LoJack GPS tracking system. As soon as the vehicle's VIN was entered into the National Crime Information Center (NCIC), the San Bernardino County Auto Theft Task Force (SANCATT) was on the case.
Working with a LoJack Law Enforcement Liaison, detectives activated LoJack LE and instantly tracked the Audi’s real-time movements. The stolen car was tearing through a remote area of the county, and officers wasted no time in mobilizing. Several undercover detectives and marked patrol units moved in to intercept.
When officers attempted a traffic stop, the suspects had other plans. Instead of surrendering, they hit the gas – hard. The chase was on. Racing at speeds over 100 mph, the stolen Audi roared down the highway for five miles as law enforcement closed in.
Finally, the driver lost his traction on wet roads, skidding to a stop before he and his passenger bolted from the vehicle on foot. But they had nowhere to run. Overhead, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s airship had them locked in its sights, guiding officers straight to their hiding spot. Within moments, both suspects were taken into custody without further incident.
After being processed for evidence, the stolen Audi was returned to its rightful owner. Thanks to quick police work, cutting-edge technology, and an adrenaline-pumping pursuit that left the thieves with nowhere to hide.
