LoJack Assists with Recovery of Stolen Jeep Wrangler in Mexico
A resident of San Diego, CA rented out his 2015 Jeep Wrangler in what appeared to be a routine transaction. A short time later, he determined the driver’s license used to rent the Wrangler was fraudulent. Utilizing the installed LoJack GPS system, the owner discovered the vehicle was in Tijuana, Mexico. A theft report was filed with the San Diego police department and the vehicle was listed stolen in the National Crime Information Computer (NCIC).?
The owner also reported the theft to the LoJack 24-hour stolen vehicle hotline. Utilizing the LoJack GPS system, the vehicle’s location was confirmed to be in Tijuana, Mexico. The stolen Jeep was then added to LoJack LE, a new application that allows law enforcement to directly track stolen vehicles equipped with LoJack. The case was also escalated to a LoJack law enforcement liaison who worked with California Highway Patrol Mexican liaison officers to communicate with the Mexican Federal Police.?
Officers with the Mexican Federal Police responded to a residential location that was provided via the LoJack GPS system. A male was contacted near the Jeep who claimed he was the owner and had just purchased the vehicle two days prior. The male provided documentation showing $15,000 was paid for the Jeep and provided a title. The title was determined to be fraudulent, and the Jeep was impounded for safekeeping.?
The Jeep will be repatriated back to the United States and returned to Its rightful owner. The owner expressed gratitude for the recovery of the Jeep, acknowledging that it wouldn't have been possible without the LoJack GPS device. He also highlighted the teamwork between law enforcement officers and felt supported by LoJack customer service throughout the process.?
The LoJack GPS system was installed by Paradise Chevrolet Cadillac, Temecula, California.?
