LoJack Assists with Recovery of Stolen Hyundai Tucson in Tijuana, Mexico
On November 13, 2024, a Victorville, California resident discovered that his Hyundai Tucson had been stolen from the driveway of his home. The owner immediately notified the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, who entered the vehicle's VIN into the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) stolen vehicle file. He also contacted the LoJack 24-hour stolen vehicle hotline to request recovery assistance.
Using data from the installed LoJack GPS system, it was determined that the vehicle had already crossed into Tijuana, Mexico. The case was escalated to a LoJack Law Enforcement Liaison and the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Mexican Liaison Unit. The vehicle was located stationary in a business parking lot, and the location was provided to the Mexican National Guard. Just before officers arrived at the scene, the vehicle became mobile.
With real-time data from LoJack LE, the CHP Mexican Liaison Detective relayed the vehicle's location to responding Mexican authorities. The vehicle was recovered shortly afterward, but the driver fled on foot.
