AI becomes an "efficiency powerhouse" for logistics
The optimization and automation of decisions and processes in logistics will reach new dimensions in 2025 through artificial intelligence: AI systems are already processing large and unstructured data volumes significantly faster than humans can, enabling efficient route planning with optimal utilization of all available resources in a fraction of the time previously needed (manually). However, AI doesn't necessarily replace dispatchers; it can also simply be used as a virtual assistant that suggests optimal routes based on all available data.
At MotionTools we are providing our customers with more and more AI assistants as well. These help, for example, to automatically create bookings from unformatted customer emails or PDFs, already saving dispatchers up to 3 hours of work per day! Would you like to see it in action?
Delivery services continue to grow worldwide
Following the decline of the quick-commerce boom and the exit of fast-growing 10-minute delivery services like Gorillas and Getir in european countries, quick commerce seemed to die out. But even though the market has initially consolidated, a recent study of the global quick-commerce market shows a positive development.
The market volume reached 45.6 billion US dollars in 2024 and is projected to grow to 328.0 billion US dollars by 2035—an annual growth rate of 19.6%. This growth is driven partly by increasing demand for rapid delivery of everyday items like personal care products, electronics, and pet supplies. Nevertheless, food and restaurant deliveries continue to dominate the market.
A trend emerging for 2025, driven by both driver shortages and legal changes from 2024, is the outsourcing of these deliveries to third parties. So-called 3PLs (Third Party Logistics Providers) are increasingly making large-scale deliveries for services like UBER Eats, Wolt, and other providers.
At MotionTools, we're witnessing this trend firsthand, with a growing number of 3PLs adopting our software for their operations with Uber, Wolt, and other delivery platforms.

Parcel services increasingly focus on parcel lockers
The parcel locker market in Germany is currently growing significantly. Various providers are driving this development forward with ambitious expansion plans. Alongside established providers DHL, GLS, and DPD, a new competitor, Myflexbox, entered the market in 2024.
DHL remains the market leader with 15,000 parcel and postal lockers, with plans to expand to 30,000 by 2030. DHL's subsidiary "DeinFach" has also introduced 60 carrier-agnostic lockers. GLS and DPD plan to expand from currently 100 to 3,000 shared lockers by 2027, plus 2,000 proprietary lockers each by the end of 2025. Newcomer Myflexbox aims to grow from 460 to 5,000 lockers by 2030 and offers the unique feature of being accessible to various parcel services (GLS, DPD, FedEx, UPS).
The expansion of parcel lockers offers multiple benefits: reduced inner-city traffic, lower operational costs for logistics providers, and relief for the strained driver market. Customers enjoy 24/7 availability and flexible pickup options.
We are also seeing increased interest in parcel locker integration from our MotionTools customer base, and as one of the few TMS systems on the market, we are already technologically equipped for this trend.
