Modula with New Vertical Automated Warehouse Products

The leading provider of vertical automated warehouses that save space, and time, and minimize picking errors, Modula, unveils two new products with lift features but new applications. First up is Modula Pallet, an innovative automated vertical solution that is transforming how companies manage pallets measuring 1200 x 800 mm. This advanced solution improves efficiency and simplifies warehouse operations without the need for conventional forklifts.?

The main advantage of Modula Pallet is that it can handle pallets directly off the ground, eliminating the need for forklifts to hoist them. The cargo is moved across the ground with ease, and it is then quickly put into the warehouse that is in charge of the lifting process. This ensures a more efficient workflow and releases operators from the difficulties involved with handling items at heights.

Additionally, Modula Pallet makes it possible to store pallets strategically at higher elevations while guaranteeing practical ground-level delivery. A manual forklift or pallet jack can be used for internal warehouse transfers, which simplifies the logistics process overall. Because of this, it is the best option for firms that manage a moderate volume of pallets between a few tens and a few hundred, and want to optimize warehouse organization by utilizing vertical storage space.

Singapore Port Mitigates Supply Chain Disruption

Since the beginning of 2024, PSA Singapore (PSA), an important global transshipment center, has greatly enhanced its capacities to sustain growing activity and minimize the impact of disruptions to the global supply chain. This entails reactivating berths and yard space at Keppel Terminal, commissioning new berths at Tuas Port, and strengthening its frontline capacity. Because of this, the typical wait time at the port has been minimized to two days or less in recent weeks. The supply chain's impact and demand are still volatile due to the ongoing interruptions, which also include the situation in the Red Sea. Even in these uncertain times, PSA is dedicated to working with its clients.

Even though PSA has all of its berths filled, since the beginning of 2024, the firm has experienced strong berth demand in addition to off-schedule vessel arrivals. This has led to high concentrations of boats coming on particular days of the week, which has increased waiting times significantly. Larger call sizes have necessitated longer vessel stays, resulting in longer dwell times for transshipment containers. Congestion at upstream and downstream ports, the situation in the Red Sea (which has indirectly reduced overall global shipping capacity), and port omissions by shipping lines to recover their schedules have all contributed to significant changes in vessel arrival patterns and call sizes.

Biomethane Lorries for DHL’s Tesco Ireland Network

Tesco Ireland has taken delivery of fifty cutting-edge biomethane-fueled trucks as part of its continuing cooperation with DHL Supply Chain. These trucks will be used throughout Tesco's nationwide distribution network. The trucks will replace fifty diesel units right now, resulting in a 90% reduction in carbon emissions from tailpipes. DHL's biomethane fleet, which will operate out of Tesco's Dublin distribution centers, will transport produce to retailers. As part of its comprehensive plan to lower its carbon footprint and improve the environmental sustainability of its operations, Tesco is introducing new biomethane vehicles. This aligns with DHL's overarching objective to minimize carbon emissions across its supply chains.

The trucks will refuel at the neighboring St. Margaret's neighborhood in north Dublin, which is home to Flogas's recently opened BioCNG refueling station. The vehicles will get their renewable fuel from anaerobic digestion plants in Ireland and Europe. With a full biomethane gas tank, each vehicle can travel 700 kilometers, allowing the Tesco business to visit any of its 177 stores without requiring refueling. Each tractor unit will distribute 15 to 20 truckloads of deliveries per week around the country, from Letterkenny to Kerry to Dublin.

AI Demand Forecasting Works

According to Dr. Nicholas Wegman, Senior Director - AI Scientist, and Alex Barnes, Senior Director of Product Management, Zebra Technologies, some businesses may still be reluctant to adopt AI or machine learning (ML) technologies even though the advantages of AI, especially adaptive AI, have been widely publicized. These worries could include doubt about the accuracy of AI forecasts, fear of losing one's career, and privacy issues. Employees frequently express concern that AI will replace human labor. Research shows that while AI could be able to automate some processes, it probably won't be able to replace full-time employment, particularly in the areas of inventory management and supply chain planning.

In addition to creating new employment and transforming current ones, artificial intelligence (AI) is predicted to displace some jobs, according to a World Economic Forum (WEF) report. According to the WEF's Future of Jobs report, automation, and artificial intelligence will result in a net gain of 12 million jobs worldwide by 2025. AI is predicted to maximize human abilities and productivity rather than replace humans, freeing up workers to focus on higher-level jobs that call for creativity and critical thinking - qualities that are crucial for carrying out demand projections and inventory strategies.

Aviation Service Company Gets New HQ at Logistics Park

AerFin, a global aviation services provider, and St. Modwen Logistics, a leading logistics developer and manager in the UK, have signed a 10-year lease for AerFin's new 115,000-square-foot global headquarters at St. Modwen Park Newport. The agreement will take effect at the end of 2024. The facility provides purpose-built space for improved aviation aftermarket services operations, such as standard warehousing and logistics, engine disassembly and maintenance, and repair and overhaul operations. By agreeing to the deal, AerFin will triple its engine maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) capacity to about 200 quick-turn shop visits per year and maximize its storage capacity in the UK by a third.

The approximately 5,600 square feet of highly specified office space provides a modern, cozy setting that builds the expansion of AerFin's international business activities while providing an exceptional work experience and enabling net-zero carbon operations through lower energy use. Blackstone said earlier this year that the assets of St. Modwen Logistics will be integrated into Indurent, a new pure-play UK logistics champion, effective July 2024. More than 200 assets, or 26 million square feet of logistics space, will be owned by the company.
