“Logic takes you from A to B…"
“Logic takes you from A to B. Imagination takes you anywhere.” - Albert Einstein
Every time I read this quote from Einstein, I am reminded of Lord Ganesa.
An elephant god who is huge but rides on a tiny little mouse. How is that possible? Logic says it is not possible.
Logic also said that heavy objects cannot fly. Or heavy objects would sink in water. Man has defied logic in both instances. This is where imagination plays a big role. Imagination helps us dream - what if objects could fly??What if huge vessels could sail??
We are so often caught in the tight frame of logic, that we are unable to see beyond it. We are so caged by logic that we forget how to use our imagination.
Imagination has a big role to play in?creative thinking, problem-solving, and innovation.? A driverless car started with?someone's imagination.?“What if we could have a driverless car?”. Man’s progress in every field happened?because someone asked?an audacious question.?“But what if?”, “Suppose…”, “Why not…”. They then went about making it possible.
That is why Ganesa signifies imagination to me. He is my God of possibilities.
“Interesting logic”?I knew Prasanna was there.?“Tell me more,”?he said.
"Possibility thinking?is integral to all this. The first time right or one right answer?does not work. Possibility thinking does.

There is yet another aspect of Ganesa that got me thinking. Most?people start anything new with a?prayer to Ganesa. And what does the prayer say? It does not pray that “God please make me succeed.” Instead, it says,?“Please give me the willpower to overcome obstacles.”?It means that when we start anything new we must expect obstacles. And we just cannot give up.
Einstein also defined insanity.?“Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.”
?So any aspiration to make things better will mean that we have to?think differently. That is why my mission is?“to help people think differently?and do better”.
Possibility thinking is a big shot in the arm when you are starting something new. Having the God of Possibilities on your side certainly helps.
“Are you being sentimental here?”
?“I guess so. “
“Well, you have the license to feel the way you do. But I must say you made me think differently about an elephant and a mouse.”
*Prasna is my uninvited coach. He appears when he wishes to and pushes to me to think. Asks me tough questions on behalf my readers.
