West Midlands Business Masters 2022

We’re delighted to have won the Law Firm of the Year award at the West Midlands Business Masters 2022. The Business Desk hosted the awards ceremony in Birmingham on Thursday 3 November, where they announced this year’s winners in the West Midlands’ business community.

TheBusinessDesk.com said that we are “in an incredibly strong field” and that “Lodders has taken its services to another level this year.” Winning this title is truly an honour and it reflects all the work our team has put in over the last 12 months. The award recognises our great team and the growing strength of the firm over the last year.

Professional Cricketers' Association Futures Conference

On the 2 & 3 of November, a few representatives from Lodders attended The Professional Cricketers' Association Futures Conference in Birmingham. 19 members of the PCA took part in 13 sessions throughout the conference which saw numerous activities, exercises and discussions designed to give them clarity on their future career options.

Paul Mourton , Sarah Naffine and Hilary Campton spoke at the conference discussing the best ways to pursue a career in law and their motivation for wanting to support cricketers.

The PCA Futures Awards will take place in our Cheltenham office in early December where the finalists will be judged on their presentations. The winners will be judged by Lodders & PCA staff and shall receive funds to start their new career endeavours.

Lodders bids au revoir to Martin Green after 36 years

After an astonishing 36 years and six months at the firm, Martin Green stepped back from client work responsibilities and his role as Lodders’ senior partner in June 2022. Our annual All Firm Meeting

On 10 November, we held our annual all-firm meeting. It was great to have a day of team building and collaboration and to catch up with some colleagues.

We also had two guest speakers, Jeremy Snape and Andy Flower . Jeremy Snape is an international cricketer turned sports psychologist, and he led a Q&A session with Andy Flower – former number 1 batsman in the world and former England coach.

They talked about high performance, working under pressure, and working as a team. They offered us insights into the world of professional cricket and the correlations to the business world of working under pressure, what makes a good team, and the importance of having a strong and united team culture.

How to challenge a will

You can now watch our contested wills webinar on our website.? Anjali Narshi & Jennifer Russell gave us useful insights into the grounds for contesting a will, and the implications. They also explained what measures can be put in place to protect a will from being challenged in the future.

Join us for our Commercial Landlord & Tenant seminar at the Stratford Manor Hotel. From 3:30pm to 5.30pm, Thursday 24 November 2022. This face-to-face seminar is designed for landlords and tenants of commercial property as well as their agents and professional advisors.

• Agriculture solicitor - We are looking for a dynamic and ambitious individual to join our first-tier ranking agricultural team. This person will have been qualified as a solicitor or chartered legal executive 5+ yrs PQE, has previous experience within general commercial company practice and has great communication both internally and externally with clients.
• Senior property litigator - We are looking for an outstanding individual to join our growing property litigation team to provide professional advice on a range of property disputes. This person will be a senior lawyer with over 6 years PQE, strong technical knowledge and good communication skills.
• Commercial property litigator - This role has been created to support two partners in the team and would ideally suit a solicitor with 2-3 years of experience, someone who is genuinely passionate about this practice area. This is a development opportunity for a candidate who can demonstrate good quality commercial dispute experience.
• Digital & content marketing executive - From social posts, emailers, and website blogs, through to curating and writing our much-admired magazine ‘Lodders Life‘, this is a varied content marketing role that will suit individuals who can combine a love of writing with digital marketing expertise. This person will have two to three years of experience in a digital and/or content marketing role, with a proven ability to translate complex ideas into clear, engaging communication.
