Lockdown is the world's biggest psychological experiment - and we WILL pay the price!

Lockdown is the world's biggest psychological experiment - and we WILL pay the price!

With some 2.6 billion people around the world in some kind of lockdown, we are conducting arguably the largest psychological experiment ever;

According to Dr Elke Van Hoof, in her article for the World Economic Forum, this will result in a secondary epidemic of burnouts and stress-related absenteeism in the latter half of 2020 and as an Occupational Psychologist with many years supporting organisations and their people, I agree!

Taking action now can mitigate the toxic effects of COVID-19 lockdowns.

There is an acknowledgement that individuals are experiencing increased levels of stress, poor mental health, poor physical health and lack of sleep; by being out of a routine, losing their jobs or working from home under difficult circumstances.

Then we have the workforces who are keeping our countries going - health and care workers, medical staff, social workers, utilities, supermarket and supply chain staff, key workers in a range of industries and they DO go to work, often terrified that are increasing their own, and their families risk of becoming ill or worse.

This level of sustained stress WILL take its toll and impact on levels of burnout and stress-related absence later.

There are things that can be put in place to mitigate the impact of this for individuals and organisations.

At Best Hopes Coaching and Consulting LTD, we have been supporting individuals and teams for over ten years and use a range of techniques from Positive Psychology, Psychological Intervention, Solution Focused Practice and Neuroscience and Therapy. We reduce the impact of critical incidents by creating a robust system for teams to offload, create shared support, depressurise and engage in techniques that reduce stress, increase resilience, manage mental wellbeing and allow down-regulation of harmful stress hormones that contribute to burnout and problem-focused thinking.

We offer events via virtual meeting and can support teams anywhere in the world. We know the best approach is being proactive rather than reactive!

Can your organisation afford to wait and see what the impact is of the 'second pandemic' and the cost to your people and your bottom line?

If you were to take action NOW- it could save you losing your best people later, to physical and mental illness related to burnout.

Poor productivity and days off sick are costing us a staggering amount of money ALREADY, before Covid-19. According to a survey by Vitality Life, sickness-related absences and presenteeism are costing the UK economy £77.5 billion a year.

Will we see that double? What if your organisational cost of absenteeism was to double?

Take action now to ensure it doesn't!

I'm finding exactly what you are that people really need the support and help to manage anxiety rather than push, push and push through. I couldn't agree more that if we don't do something about it now we will end up seeing a much larger problem post COVID. A little like when you get sick right as you're about to leave on vacation because you've been carrying so much stress the preceding weeks or months.
