Lockdown BurnOut - what can you do?

Lockdown BurnOut - what can you do?

It's a weird mixture of worry and lethargy, time slipping by slowly but also quickly, massive changes but every day being the same. Here are seven practical things you can do to feel better and cope better:

1 - Reevaluate your goals - what do you want to do, as your job and outside your job - what do you enjoy doing, and what do you want to achieve? Now is the time to redesign your future life!

2 - Stay close to your boss. If you're working from home, volunteer to have a weekly zoom catch up. Whatever your boss is like, don't drift away from them.

3 - Find ways and suggest ways to measure your results not your activity, so that you can prove that you're doing a good job, and you can get a sense of achievement in your work. Extra important when working remotely.

4 - Take the chance to learn new skills and knowledge. You're only as good as what's in your head! Take a course on anything that interests you and might help with earning your living.

5 - Consider starting a side-hustle. What have you always wanted to do? What's your ideal job? Can you start trying it in a small, safe way?

6 - Daily exercise routine. When locked down it's easy to become a vegetable, but if you just do 5 minutes a day, perhaps helped by an online programme, it'll lift your spirits. The body controls the mind!

7 - Have something to look forward to - and since we're not allowed holidays and parties at the moment this may require some thought, but it might be a solo hiking day or a sporting event on TV, or the celebration you'll have on finishing a course.

The small stuff adds up, so keep your routines positive, but also take this strange time as a chance to thin about the big stuff. It's a re-set!
