#Lockdown 2.0 The same but different?

I hope your first full week of Lockdown 2 has started well. As mentioned in a previous post we have the advantage of experience! I’m not saying it’s a wanted experience but we have it so lets use it to our advantage!
Before getting to gung ho though, let's address the ‘elephant in the room’ when looking at the two lockdowns. 'The weather’.
This significant difference is an important factor when looking at how best to get ourselves through it! Previously we had a beautiful weather, allowing us to get out more freely whether that be enjoying time in the garden and or out for our daily exercise. This time around we have autumnal weather and in some cases winter, making conditions wet, damp and cold! Daylight is a premium with dark mornings and the evenings drawing in fast. Not so easy or inviting to get out and about. It also doesn’t encourage or inspire us to be more positive?
For the vast majority of us who are, or still working from home, lockdown has afforded us more flexibility in how we work. It has had too due to things like child care, school runs etc. We can work at different times of the days. With this in mind I have carved out a new routine, allowing me to schedule in time to exercise, take valuable breaks or just do something different, while still making sure I fulfil my work commitments. There are many things we can all do to support our wellbeing during lockdown but for me I’d like to start by encouraging you to get outdoors. You’ll:
- be more active,
- benefit from fresh air,
- out in the natural light,
- and if you can add a little discipline, take important time away from technology!
This small incremental change of getting outside will naturally fire up the positivity in us all!!
Can we all try and commit to getting outdoors daily?

4 年Excellent Sally, coincidentally I’ve just published an article which might resonate when it comes to technology. https://www.dhirubhai.net/pulse/digital-wellbeing-starts-you-george-grant

4 年Sally Gunnell! Memories of early 90's huddled around the family tv (only one tv in the house back then) watching you win Olympic and World Championships GOLD! Taking it to the very powerful and glitzy USA team - Farmer Patrick?? Our hero!! I think you made us all cry!! (why do I always cry when the Olympics is on?!?! ?? ?? ) We would love to have you on a Why Sports platform sharing your views and opinions with our audience - that would be bloody brilliant! Let me know if you'd be interested! #outdoorsdaily

4 年Great advice Sally. A lot of adults in the UK will be experiencing a fall in Vitamin D levels in the coming weeks as the sun is now too low in the sky to synthesize this in our skin until at least April. Taking a daily supplement of Vitamin D with food is also something to consider at this time of year.
