Location, location, location.

Location, location, location.

A real estate broker says that is most important when buying or selling a property. And what about the location filter on LinkedIn?

That is also important. You can search for a city, state/province, or area. So, let's stay with the PHP developer in Sydney.

You can search for a city, Sydney, a state, New South Wales, or an area, the Greater Sydney Area. Then, you can select three options: current, current or open to relocate, or open to relocate only.

I know there is another one—the postal code with a range in miles or kilometers. You can select up to a 200-mile radius.

Well, that is easy. For Sydney, these are the numbers without any other filter.

  • Sydney City: 2.6 Mio
  • Greater Sydney Area: 2.7 Mio
  • New South Wales: 3.5 Mio
  • Postal Code 200 Miles: 3.6 Mio

Okay, Australia is a large country. It is more prominent in the Netherlands, where I live. Utrecht city, Utrea Area, Utrecht the province (I know we are stupid), And a postal code of Utrecht with a range.

  • Utrecht city: 280K+
  • Utrecht Area: 430K+
  • Utrecht province: 650K+
  • Postal Code 200 Miles: 20 Mio

Huh, 20 Million. Yes, 20M. The Netherlands is so small that you are going beyond the borders, like Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg, France, and even the UK.

So that you know, always be in mind. The range is 200 Miles as the crow flies.

How to uncover hidden talent on LinkedIn part I

What about people who want to relocate to Sydney? Yes, you can.

There is a filter for that. The open to relocate filter. But there is a but, a big but.

You find everyone who wants to move to, in this case, Australia.

Australia is one of the most complex countries, as far as I know, to get a working Visa. So, finding 100K+ people and much nonresidence in your country is not so convenient. (If you are okay with that, then no problem for me)

For example, because I am searching from the Netherlands, I get many results of Dutch people wanting to migrate to Australia.

But can we see only people who live already in Australia and want to move from Brisbane, Perth, and Melbourne to Sydney?

Yes, you can. We are still searching for locations Open to relocate to Sydney. After this, we will open the postal code search.

We enter these three locations. (You can enter multiple locations in your postal code search.) The magic will happen.

  • Postal code: where they live now
  • Location and open to relocate: where do they want to relocate to

Next time, I have another hack for you about locations. Stay tuned.
