Location, location...location.

We have heard it said before, but it is still at the top when it comes to purchasing real estate. Will you feel safe in your new home? Are you within a reasonable distance from a hospital or medical center, and how quick are area police and fire departments usually able to respond? What are the crime rates? Where are the major highways relative to this property and are there any easements to consider? How are the neighbors? Don’t be afraid to introduce yourself and find out what you can about the area. 

Meeting your neighbors is a very efficient way to learn more about the community, lifestyle and culture of its inhabitants. Make a list of items that are important to you and your family, and bring it with you in a notebook where you can jot things down. What kind of high-end amenities are available and which ones are important to you? What types of businesses do you and your family frequent the most? Is it important to be relatively close to an airport? What about a dry cleaning service? A post office? Library? 

It’s important to educate yourself on the property values in a given area to ensure they are increasing or stable at the very least.
