Localized ISE Installation

ISE can run as a VM or on SNS server. Sometimes is need it to reinstall?ISE due to a problem or for an upgrade process. Reinstalling ISE can become a challenge?in some scenarios (specially when you want to deploy it on SNS servers). For this reason, ISE 3.2 Patch 5 and ISE 3.3 Patch 2 introduces a new feature that allows the user to reinstall ISE using the CLI, saving around 40 minutes (when first tested this feature, the speed of the installation process surprised me...). The feature is Localized ISE Installation.

Notes:

1. To use this feature, ISE needs to be installed and running.
2. Another use of this feature is that you can use it to install a higher version. Consider this an upgrade option, just remember that this deletes all the configuration as it installs ISE again (if you have already installed any patches, all of them are removed upon using this feature), even the running-configuration.
3. You can use this option to reinstall the current version and higher versions. You cannot install a version that is older than the current version.

To using this feature:

After copying the ISE ISO file to the local “disk” repository (using CLI or GUI), validate the ISO is in the disk, by executing the “dir” command:

Run the command?“application?configure ise”?and type option?36 (for ISE 3.2 Patch 5) and option 38 (for ISE 3.3 Patch 2):

Select your desired ISO file and doing so forces the MD5 checking phase. If the MD5 value is correct, proceed to installation:

As you can see above, the installation operation automatically starts and causes the installation from scratch but with very fast operation:

Once the installation has finished, it is time to do the running configuration. Type?“setup” and configure the parameters as normal ISE installation:
