Local Nonprofits Join Forces In New Mexico with #GivingTuesdayNM

You may have heard that December 1st is the worldwide event called #Giving Tuesday; that one day that encourages giving to your favorite charity and promotes the importance of volunteerism and philanthropy in our communities and in our world. Many local nonprofits many are planning to participate in New Mexico as well. A small few of us from various nonprofits decided that the best way to increase communication and promotion of the event and what it means to the community is to join forces. We agreed that collaboration is key in order for this day to be successful for any of us! So, we have launched #GivingTuesdayNM, a collaborative effort to reach our community as a collective group and positively impact the people that we serve each day.

We have received a proclamation from Mayor RJ Berry, declaring December 1st as Giving Tuesday in Albuquerque and promoting the importance of philanthropy in Albuquerque and Congress has recently passed a resolution declaring December 1st as Giving Tuesday throughout the US. Momentum is growing!

#GivingTuesdayNM is currently working on a slide shot listing all participating organizations and their online giving URLs. Thanks to the AFP-NM, we will project it at theNational Philanthropy Day Luncheon on November 4th. We have also partnered with the Albuquerque Community Foundation, Center for Nonprofit Excellence, Good News NM and the Association of Fundraising Professionals –NM and will be promoting the day using social media, email blasts, newsletters to donors and volunteers, videos on You Tube channels and anywhere that we can spread the word! We are in the process of creating short videos from a handful of donors talking about what giving means to them and those will go up online as well! We currently have 27 nonprofits on board with a goal to bring together 60+ by mid-November.

We know that a community that is active in philanthropy and volunteerism provides the framework needed for a positive business environment. Businesses in Albuquerque know that partnering with non-profit organizations who are working tirelessly to improve healthcare, education, the environment, address social justice issues and homelessness is the best way to positively impact the community and provide a better life for all of us. A vibrant city is critical to attracting business, jobs and growing the local economy. We need the support of donors, individuals and corporate alike, to be educated about the benefits of philanthropy and to stand up and give. #GivingTuesdayNM provides that collaborative effort and communication needed to impact change. I am excited to see what this movement will mean to the community of Albuquerque and the state of New Mexico.

Follow us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram at #GivingTuesdayNM and visit www.centerfornonprofitexcellence to see the list of participating organizations!
