Local Commercial Real Estate Organization Invites Community to Join in Support of Coalition for the Homeless

The Florida CCIM Chapter Central District is inviting their members, business associates, family, and friends to join them in an online fundraising campaign designed to drive much needed funds to a group that supports the community’s most vulnerable.

During the area’s fight against the coronavirus, the Coalition for the Homeless of Central Florida, the largest provider of homeless services in Central Florida, admits they are suddenly in a dire situation.

The ripple effect from the coronavirus pandemic has led to a more than $25,000 per week operational cost increase primarily due to: (1) in-kind food donations at a standstill requiring the Coalition to provide all food for the Meal Serve program serving 500 men, women, and children daily; (2) on-campus volunteering suspended; (3) increased staffing costs to take the place of volunteers; and (4) increased CDC prevention measures requiring paid manpower and supplies.

“Our single biggest need is for financial donations at a time when we are seeing an increase in need for our services and an increase in our day-to-day operational expenses. Any amount helps. Meals are just $1.37 per person, so your dollars will go a long way towards helping the most vulnerable in our community,” shares Meredith Bekemeyer, Director of Development for the Coalition.

Florida CCIM Central District President Amy Calandrino said her board voted on the drive and set the high goal of $15,000 because the need is so serious. “The Central District gives annually to the Coalition after our annual golf tournament. But this year, we can’t wait until the fall to raise funds with the mounting need and costs. Please join us and help us keep this critical safety net in place.”
