The local blood supply is having a challenging month. It’s time for Texans to answer the challenge.
Here’s why the need for donor support is red-hot right now:
August is a challenging month for the community blood supply. With many high school donors still on break and families on vacations, blood donations drop.
And, though supply drops, demand doesn’t. Summer weather and outdoor activities contribute to an increase in people with injuries heading to the ER. A single critically injured patient has the potential to nearly deplete a hospital’s blood supply.
Who do volunteer donors help?
They and many other neighbors in need are helped by volunteer donors.
What blood types are needed?
The short answer: All of them. But O negative is critical. As the universal blood type, O negative can be used to treat any patient, regardless of their individual blood type, and it’s the only type used to help premature babies.
Donors are lifesavers
Carter BloodCare urges blood, plasma and platelet donors to step up to help others who depend on all of us. Texans can make a lifesaving difference by donating regularly at a nearby Carter BloodCare donor center or mobile blood drive.
This month and beyond, saving local lives is a healthy habit that’s always in season.
