Local Author Writes Book to Calm Children

Ten percent of proceeds from each sale will benefit Positive Tomorrows to support child poverty relief

OKLAHOMA CITY (Dec. 12, 2016)  ? Many situations can cause children to feel worried or scared. A loved one suffering from an illness or accident. Starting a new school. Even something routine such as going to the dentist.

Local author Renée Adams has created a tool to help: A picture book and blanket to help caregivers, parents and children find “Calm in Your Palm.”

The book uses imagery, song and touch to inspire a calming experience. The book is accompanied by a small blanket featuring four calming colors. The story guides readers to move the palm of their hand across patches of yellow, green, white and blue, one of the most universally calming colors, according to color psychology research.

“Though the target age group for ‘Calm in Your Palm’ is four to eight, I wrote the story with people of all ages in mind. I believe the book and blanket will be resources for kids, teaching them calm is ever present in the palm of their hands,” said Adams.

Adams also developed a free mobile device app to bring the pictures to life, and anyone can download the singalong bluegrass song that makes the book even more fun.

Adams said her mission is to use proceeds from the book to benefit children in another way.

“We will donate 10 percent of the proceeds from each book to Positive Tomorrows in support of local child poverty relief efforts,” she said.

“Calm in Your Palm” is the first book published by Calm In Your Palm LLC (CIYP), an organization Adams started in pursuit of a passion to create books that delight children and strongly bond families through valuable experiences and traditions. CIYP’s mission is to increase child poverty awareness and support nonprofit organizations working responsibly toward child poverty relief.

"Every child needs a way to feel calm and peaceful in our busy world,” said Cathy Fowler, a kindergarten teacher at Casady School in Oklahoma City. “This is a valuable tool for helping children feel happy and secure."

The “Calm in Your Palm” book and blanket are available exclusively at www.calminyourpalm.com. To celebrate the launch of the new book, all orders will receive free shipping. The CIYP app can be downloaded from iTunes and the Google Play stores, and the song is available at https://calminyourpalm.com/pages/music-and-app.
