Oh, Man...

the lobsterpot< newswrap – point your election in our direction!

Howdy thermidorks<! What with it being Cannabis Europa this week –?and considering there’s a General Election looming here – we figured we’d give our native UK some attention this week.?

Yup, Britain’s still very much a med market right now – albeit one with a pitiful number of patients (40,000) relative to the population (67 million). It’s also got a thriving legacy market; with an estimated 1.8 million would-be patients self medicating via the illicit market.

So why aren’t there more patients hitting up UK clinics? Why aren’t the 1.8 million patients-in-waiting switching over to legal market medical cannabis??

Could it be that the stigma’s even stronger than the smell which seems to offend so many naysayers? Perhaps the path to patienthood is too stringent? Could the cost of consultations, check ups, and prescriptions be too prohibitive?

I’d argue it’s all of the above: compounded by a broad lack of awareness among the general public. As a result, it’s pretty clear that any new government won’t be prioritising reform any time soon – not if they want to appeal to the sizeable aging electorate.?

That said, the smaller, more locally, influential political parties are more vocal on cannabis. Read on to find out more…

Political Parties x Pot ?

Starmer? Sunak? Davey? Denyer? Where do the UK’s major political parties stand on cannabis legalisation? Who the fuck actually knows? Regardless, the Cannabis Industry Council has put together this handy guide to help inform your candidate choices (but no real surprises TBH…).?

Never forget that.

Have Meds, Will Travel??

As summer sets in here in Britain (and the weather gets marginally better), many will be looking forward to their holidays abroad. But where does your intended destination stand on cannabis? Can you take your prescription with you? All is revealed in this useful list from the online oracle that is MedBud . And while the information looks legit (it is MedBud after all), always exercise extreme caution when travelling with plant-based medicines.?

But can you take your medical cannabis along too?

Cannabis Getting SaaS-y?

Down in Jersey (the Channel Island, not the Turnpike/NYC suburb/Garden State), medical cannabis clinic, MediCann Clinics is the first to adopt Script Assist: a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) platform designed to simplify the medical cannabis prescription process, for doctors, clinics, and patients alike. Could this be a sign of tech innovation finally infiltrating the cannabis sector in a meaningful way? Let’s bloody hope so.

Never gets Tyra-ing.

Man O Man!?

Another UK dependency, the Isle of Man, has declared that it’s open for business to medical cannabis companies. The island, which lies midway between the UK and Ireland, announced its intention to be a key player in the regulated cannabis space four years ago. Now that its regulatory ‘T’s’ are crossed, Business Isle of Man is keen to attract ten new medical cannabis companies to its shores in 2024.?

Welcome to the Isle of Man...

Following on from last week’s inaugural ‘creative stuff produced under the influence’ feature, today we’re serving you similarly-infused snippets of imagined dialogue from non-existent films…?

  • “I’m so high that the lyrics from Starship’s ‘We Close Our Eyes’ seem insanely profound all of a sudden.”
  • “She was on that quicker than a chimp on a cherry!”
  • “He was being all ‘celebrity mystical’.
  • “My new favourite tv drama category is ‘sexy treasure hunt’.”
  • “If everything was written lower case the whole time, I’d be a much happier person.”
  • “The problem with being hot and cute af? Everyone you fuck wants to marry you. But you wouldn't know about that, Susan, would you?”
  • “Nigel was the jaunty theme tune saxophonist. That is to say he was the saxophonist of jaunty theme tunes, rather than the jaunty saxophonist of theme tunes.”
