Loadsharers: Funding the Load Bearing Internet People
The Internet relies on the work of a collection of smart, hard-working, and highly skilled individuals who write its core systems and services. The browser you're using, the software that runs your smartphone and GPS, the infrastructure that supports your online shopping ... all of them hinge on the work of these LBIPSs: "Load Bearing Internet People".
LBIPs almost always work for love, not money - meaning that despite its vital nature, their work is usually underfunded, and prone to dry periods or even abandonment when LBIPs fall ill, become too busy with paid work, or retire.
Loadsharers is a social network that has agreed to fund LBIPs through remittance services like Patreon, SubscribeStar, and PayPal. Together we can ensure that the Internet continues to work reliably for us, and future generations.

5 年That’s an interesting problem Duncan Bayne that I am pretty ignorant of. The solution seems simple at first but the more I think of it, the harder it is to make sense. How do you know the people to fund, or that should still be funded? Keen to hear more..
