The LO Down - June 14 - #HighFiveFriday, Podcast of the Week, SOLO Tip, and a Dad Joke

Good morning and Happy Father's Day weekend. It has been a great week of content and I'm enjoying the personal posts that I have seen from some about their Dad's, so I'll share a little about mine.

My Dad passed away about 6 years ago. He loved to make you laugh, had childish energy, and was sneaky smart. Unfortunately, some of his energy and abilities were taken from him when he was diagnosed with Parkinson's and Pulmonary Fibrosis. It was difficult to see his physical abilities be reduced over time, but he always found ways to stay active. He worked on R/C cars and would drive them up and down his street, the kids in the neighborhood loved it.

He flew kites and would get them so high in the air they would land miles away from his house. He even got others in the neighborhood in on the action and there would be several kites in the air at any given time. So much so, that he made sure that his string was a specific color so he could plead innocence if another kite ended up on someone's roof.

He did big cartoonish puzzles and, when he would sit, he liked to play a slot machine game on his phone, look at houses on the market, or cars.

When he passed, I was reminded of the verse in 2 Corinthians 12:9 that says, "But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me."

In those final years, when I saw the man that raised me become less and less of himself at a relatively young age (he died at 68), he showed me the meaning of this verse. Even though he was weak in certain ways, he persevered and never let those weaknesses take away his spark. I miss him. He wasn't perfect, but he was my Dad and I love him.

#HighFiveFriday #BAM

These are my five favorite posts from mortgage folks this week.

Up first, Brenden Kipnis from #teamloandepot shares a great testimonial about the importance of delivering exceptional service to your customers, especially in a difficult market like this one. Congratulations on the win Brenden, and thank you for sharing.

Second, Sean Goudreau paints an excellent picture of what it is like to go through buying/selling a home without the help of an experienced Real Estate Agent. I enjoyed this post in particular because it shows partnership with the agent and sends the message that he has their back.

Third, Barry Habib shares a great video about the importance of the energy we surround ourselves with and the impact of focusing on the positive and the attraction that it causes. Thank you for the reminder Barry!

Fourth, Brooks Kelly emphasizes the importance of being able to let go of some things in your business in order to grow. Delegation can be incredibly difficult. You spend so much time, energy, and effort building this great book of business, it can be hard to trust someone else with it. But not doing so can be costly.

And finally, Ben Green drops a few great quotes that will help you get refocused and on track. This business has led so many to burnout, to stress and anxiety, and the 3-2-1 that he shares provides some wisdom that cuts through the noise and gets right to the heart of things. I recommend you take a look.

Podcast of the Week:

Mortgage Marketing Radio - Dominating Your Local Market with Google Reviews with Geoff Zimpfer and Wade Betz

In this episode Geoff Zimpfer interviews Wade Betz about the importance of a review strategy.

This is an older episode, but one that I think is so important for originators to listen to. Wanted to pull it out of the archives, hopefully it will be helpful.

SOLO Tip of the Week:

Have a Plan

Ever go through the week and get to the end and think to yourself "I know I was busy this week, but I didn't really achieve anything."

That's a crummy feeling.

Start your week with a plan and work it. No more willy-nilly. Take the time to write out what actions need to take place each day, calendar it out, leave time for surprises, but make your scheduled times non-negotiable.

This way, when you get to the end of the week, you will know what you have accomplished and how to rinse and repeat next week and beyond.

Dad Jokes:

What is the leading cause for dry skin?

A Towel

Why does the word "Dark" end in "k" and not "c"?

Because you can't "c" in the dark

Not to brag, but I have an incredible talent in predicting what's inside a wrapped present.

It's a gift.

Gravity is one of the most fundamental forces in the universe, but if you remove it, you get...

You've been a great audience, don't forget to tip your server, have a great weekend!
