Good morning everyone and I hope you have had an incredible week. There was a ton of great content produced this week from the industry. Lots of educational, motivational, and insightful posts, it was difficult to choose 5 for High Fives this week. With all that is going on in the world, I hope you are all staying focused on the task at hand and continuing to move forward.
#HighFiveFriday #BAM
These are my 5 favorite posts from mortgage folks this week.
First up, Dee Jimenez shares her story of migrating to the US when she was 3 years old, watching her parents work hard to give their family a good life, but struggle to buy a home and the inspiration that gave her to help others like her family when she got older. Now she is a top LO in Arizona. Awesome story Dee, thank you for sharing.
Second, Mitch Clements makes the bold claim that "SOMETIMES RATE ISN'T EVERYTHING." He goes on to share an interaction he had with a client and emphasizes the importance of building trust with someone and taking the time to listen and to explain various options. And in those situations, the lowest rate doesn't always win.
Third, Roland Scott gives a simple reminder about the importance of meeting your clients where they are at and not using industry jargon when you have the option to speak in more relatable terms. I thought this was a great reminder as it is easy to slip into "mortgage-ese" when working with a borrower, but that could be costing you.
Fourth, Michael Kelleher provides a roadmap for how to build a "leadership brand" on LinkedIn and gives an example of how building that brand can catapult someone to speaking in front of large audiences at industry events. Use your voice to build an audience, they won't just come to you.
And finally, Robert Tyler-Cook had me at "solution oriented." In this post, he spells out an effective strategy towards working with ops partners on difficult loans and gaining an understanding of someone else's point of view without losing your cool. The deals are almost all tough these days, so keeping a cool head with the folks on your side is essential.
Podcast of the Week:
On the advice of Kayla Kallander I decided to give "Get Real 411" with Brad Rice and Jamie Cavanaugh a listen.

This was a great episode detailing the journey that Christine has had in the industry from Junior LO to CEO, author and coach to some pretty great LOs in the business.
SOLO Tip of the Week:
Perspective
"That one deal is not the market"
I spoke with someone this week that shared that statement with me.
Too often we fool ourselves into thinking that every deal is going to be like "the one that got away."
That every other company has better rates.
That every other company can do that loan.
That every other company has better products.
It's important to remember that the next deal will most likely be different.
Stay focused on doing the things that generate opportunities because, when you're not taking swings, that's when you start to believe the world is against you.
Dad Jokes - Car Edition
A pair of jumper cables walk into a bar. The bartender says, "I'll serve you, but you better not start anything."
I failed my drivers test today. The Instructor asked me, "What do you do at a red light?" I said, "I usually check LinkedIn and see what people are up to on Instagram."
