LMD Logs: Livelihood
In partnership with Sandile GQ Ntshingila , Indalo Robotics, and RLabs *Reconstructed Living Lab we at LMD have begun our community wide initiative to bring STEAM closer to the people and the Robotics Festival was our beginning point.
The 2nd Edition of the week long Robotics Festival took place at the Safe-Hub in Jabulani Soweto, a space serving as a platform for youth development intervention in townships to address socio-economic ills using sports, technology, and environmental awareness as a vehicle.
This effort is helping us achieve our vision of growing our industry, of highlighting the importance of technology and having the skills to survive in a digital era. The festival had a lot to introduce to the youth, ranging from free robotics and programming courses lasting the duration of the festival, inspiring and horizon expanding activities such as VR experiences, video games, digital painting, 3D printing and more.
The creation of the Safe-Hub is a prime example of fruitful, multi-stakeholder public-private-partnerships. These partnerships will enable significant and positive social impacts and an increased standard of living for the community to build resilience, foster social cohesion, drive community-based solutions, and stimulate economic development.
This move is the first in a multi-phase plan to create a unified pan-community network specifically highlighting our creative industry and equipping it with the skills and information needed to reach global standards, creating cleaner and active communities, and creating sustainability for our communities.
The future looks bright, and it is up to us to pass on the light to those that follow after us.
