Every business's origin started with someone, an entrepreneur, inventor, a champion for change; with an idea, a solution of a service or product that fixed a human problem; with a desire to make an difference in the lives of others. Their future customers.....

At the beginning of this journey: at the creation of every business is a process that I call the "flow state". Its the idea that does not go away, its when a musician is on stage; connecting with their audiences...its when an artist is creating and you have that feeling the world does not exist: its when a athlete is fully present and can see their next move before it happens and everything just seems to fall into place...

It is difficult state to hold for any period of time solely because of external stimulus's; and distraction's and responsibilities are inevitable.. and in business its no different;

So at the origin of any business is the alignment to and when our own moral compass is at its highest potency; as we hold a sense of adventure, one of full of energy and clarity about what is our own true north.. And it's at this stage where our Vision, Mission and Values are born for the business; which align to our own personal values...

We begin the journey of the dream; a journey towards leaving a legacy...

So why are we not living our Mission | Vision | Values????

At beginning the person with the original idea for the business or charity creates and holds that Mission, Vision and Values; And as with any business owner they are the CEO, Operations, Sales, Marketing, HR, Customer Service Person...They are the sole point of contact with every client; so its easy to hold that which is our original thought of the legacy of which we want to leave.. as we are the one living that experience.. We eat, sleep, breathe it....And it was of course your idea, your dream, you invention, your cause...

All the seeds we planted come to fruition and with that success ensues... And our dream becomes reality: Or do they? Our customer base grows and with that our workforce grows and so does our systems and processes...

Then as the business owner | steward; we realise we cannot do it all: and so the opportunity to grow and develop the business occurs; and to do that we need the "right people in the right places". So we hire HR, Marketing, Sales, Training personnel; and this is one of the most pivotal points in the journey of any business.

As business owners it is at this point; our role needs to change intentionally and strategically...We are no longer working in the business and every thing to everybody.. We now need to move into the LEADERSHIP Role; Which is needed for the next stage of the business; Which is You Are Now Working On & Developing The Business...Not In The Business

But now you are reliant on your new acquired workforce to Hold The Vision Mission & Values as well and even better than you; and Ensure Their Own Vision & Values Match The Businesses; And That They Translate That Mission, Vision And Values Into Practice; SIMPLE RIGHT......

But as you acquire success in your business we end up so busy operating in the business; we have no time to work on or develop the business and the result is the business ends up running us instead.... SOUND FAMILIAR????

But as our business grows so does the demands; and expectations of our customers; and our workforce; and as result our systems and process grow to cater for such demands; which tend to end up in cumbersome and complicated processes...


Our daily to do lists become exhaustive; and we start mistake movement with progress; and quantity as our kpi replaces quality...for measuring success.


It's usually at this point of the process we stop living our Mission, Vision And Values.......


So what can we do Sean I hear you ask? Well first we need to genuinely ask ourselves are we living our Mission, Vision And Values in experience.... If the answer is no; or you feel there is room to improve...

So many of the organisations & entrepreneur's I work with feel this way; but never intended or thought they would end up falling out of love with the work they do; ending in burn out...constantly stuck on autopilot.. drowning in compliance and paperwork; even feeling they are constantly overpromising and underdelivering to their people...


But it doesn't have to be that way: and there is a way back...

The Re-Set

Start By Asking Yourself These Question: MISION | VISION VALUES


  1. What's My Legacy As Leader?
  2. As The Leader(s) In Our Organisation Do I/We Honestly Live By Them & Practice Them; If So Why Not?
  3. Do I/We Actually Believe In, Buy Into, Commit To Each? Are They Still Relevant?
  4. Is Our Company's Culture By Design Or Default?
  5. Any Question | Decision To Made; Can Be Measured Against Or Asked Upon Or Mission | Vision & Values

" Culture happens anyway"

It's paramount to understand that to be able to genuinely live your Mission, Vision And Values; No matter what industry you work in we all work in the people industry. In any business or organisation culture will happen by default anyway.

Remember "Quality Experiences" only happens through intentional focus and by design....
