2022 Clean Product Swaps
Do you roll your eyes when you hear people talk about “toxicity” or your “toxic load”?
Do you feel like everything is bad for you so it’s just easier to ignore healthy advice and keep going like you are?
Or do you want to make some changes, but are too overwhelmed and don’t know where to start?
I get it. That was me. There was so much information, it just became all noise.
If you have been following me on social media, you know that I had a personal health turnaround at age 40 and I have been educating and coaching myself and clients to do the same.
So far, I have been very focused on the food that I put in my body….but I haven’t been focused about what I put ON my body.
That started to change when I read a terrific book called “The Rain Barrell Effect” by Dr Stephen Cabral. It really made me wake up and understand why:
What I learned is that since our skin is our biggest organ, it’s vitally important that I look at all the products I apply each day and make them cleaner. It’s not like when we eat food, we have our digestive system with its stomach acid and our kidneys to process and clean before we absorb. Once you put something on your skin, it’s in and with no “dampening effect”.
The issue is that it does take some time and effort to search out quality products that are simple, clean and effective to use. Plus, it still just seems so freaking overwhelming!
So, I put together a list of 10 things I want to change up in my personal care routine, and I’m just focusing on making one change at a time. As I go through my list, I’m going to share my changes and experiments with you. I also want to hear your ideas.
The book gives me the list of ingredients to look out for, and so I’m going to slowly make my swaps, with a goal of one per month. And at the end of the year, I should have reduced my “toxic load” significantly by using cleaner products. We can do this together!

#1 on my list is Toothpaste.
A great smile is vitally important, and my parents and I have invested a lot of money in these teeth! Plus, oral care is super important. Did you know our mouths have tiny capillaries that allow for the direct transport of certain nutrients and chemicals directly into our blood stream? What do you want to absorb?
Save the above image to your phone with the list of chemicals that I’m checking are NOT in the ingredient label. I’m also looking for things like “Leaping Bunny Certification” that ensures it’s vegan and no animal testing, and that the packaging is recyclable.
So, my January toothpaste swap is called “hello”…how friendly is that?
No dangerous fluoride (trust me you don’t want it), no dyes, no SLS/sulfates, and none of the below.
But Jen, how does it taste? Well, very refreshing! Natural peppermint, tea tree oil, and coconut are all ingredients I can stand behind and I’m very happy with this change.
What do you use for toothpaste? I would love to hear your healthy product alternatives below.
