Living in the present
Learning how to live more in the present is what called my attention when I picked up the book, “The Power of Now” written by Eckhart Tolle. If we are usually living in the future or reminiscing the past, how is it even possible to enjoy where we are now.
The book has a marvelous explanation of time, and how this man-made concept serves a specific purpose in our world, it helps us function. Without “clock time” we wouldn’t be able to schedule meetings, appointments or important events, but the concept of time, as stated in the book, is an illusion. The only thing we truly possess is the now.
However, most of us are trapped in, what he calls, the illusion of time. We are going back and forth, either reminiscing the past or hoping for the future. This makes us unaware of what we are losing, we are absent in the “now”, the only moment we can fully enjoy.
I’ll share with you, three takeaways from the book to focus on the now:
· Stop Creating time, withdraw attention from the past or the future.
· Accept your present situation as if you had chosen it.
· Learn to direct your focus fully into the present moment.
