Living in the moment

Living in the moment

With age, I am learning to live in the moment more and more. I had known this phrase since for ever but never actually knew what it really meant. Then one day, I observed a small child pillion riding with his father (assuming). He was sitting with his back towards his father’s back and was trying to read the number plates of all the vehicles crossing them. He was keeping the success count on his fingers and was in a complete joyful state at that time. I realized that he was living in the moment as he wanted.

I decided that day, I will work on myself and will try to live in the moment as much as possible. Trust me, it is a task. The biggest obstacle is our mind. It is so hard-trained (by us only) to make us feel miserable all the time. I realized that it was more about unlearning what we have learnt (along with software development ... lol) while growing up rather than learning anything new. So, I am unlearning the following these days

  • Unlearning to not express myself as I am. Express yourself often and you will never have any doubt about how people feel about you (lol). Sing more, laugh more, talk more, talk to the strangers (I am trying). It liberates you from the fear of judgment and helps in embracing your authentic self.
  • Unlearning to be judgmental. That fogs your mind. Meet with people and situations without preconceived notions. That gives you a new perspective. It adds another dimension to your thought process. Remember, we all are alike to the level of minutest cell of our body only situations are different.
  • Unlearning to complain. Act if you must but do not complain.
  • Unlearning to worry. Worrying about things/situations which are beyond your control can be draining. Accept what you cannot change and move on.
  • Unlearning to procrastinate. Just do it!!
  • Unlearning to feel responsible for everything and anything happening around.
  • Unlearning to feel guilty about having 'me time'. Take up hobbies. Recall your favourite time-pass activity when you were a kid. Learn new languages. Only a happy person can spread happiness.
  • LEARN GRATITUDE - Focus at least once every day on what all you have to be thankful. If you can do this first thing in the morning, it gives you an energy boost
