Living the Life You Want

Living the Life You Want

Something happened to me a few years ago as I approached midlife. I felt a shift towards deeper meaning and purpose.

It started with one simple sentence.

I was in my late 40’s and privileged to be working for one of the most powerful and extraordinary people on the planet. You may have heard of her. Oprah Winfrey. I had an amazing job as a Post Producer for The Oprah Show. I was part of a worldwide mission to help people live their best lives, so they could truly make a difference in the world. I worked with incredible people whom I genuinely admired and respected, and I was paid well for my contribution. Of course it wasn’t easy – I often worked 6 days a week, and very long hours to boot. But, I’m not complaining. I felt genuinely blessed to be a part of something powerful and positive that reached millions of people every day.

Still, those times when I would leave work in the middle of the night, I’d sit in my car waiting for the red light to change, feeling weary and unsettled. Night after night the same sentence would circle around my brain like a mantra from my inner spirit, telling me a truth I already knew.

This is not the life I want.

Have you ever felt like that?

Waiting at home was my husband, our then 10 year-old son, 5 year-old daughter, and our collie dog – the only one who would be awake when I walked in the door. Though my job was incredible, it was where I was spending most of my time. I had allowed my life to become completely unbalanced.

I knew I loved and valued my family more than anything, yet the way I spent my time, honestly did not reflect that.

I thought about all the principles that had guided me throughout my life like gratitude, self-respect, respect for others, commitment, inner strength, and spirituality. They were like familiar paths that connected me to my true self.

Yet I wasn’t living them – at least not to the extent that mattered. It was like inviting a cherished old friend to a party and then not making time to sit down and talk with her. Sure, she was there. But only on the surface. And that’s not the way I wanted to live my life.

Then something unexpected happened. Amidst a decades-long career in television, I had an opportunity to write a book about character. My book came out the year I turned fifty and changed the trajectory of my life – and not just because I became a bestselling author. More importantly, when I began intentionally focusing on living with more gratitude, compassion, integrity, joy, and purpose, I reconnected with my true self – the part of me that had gotten lost in the demands of everyday living. And day after day, as my actions aligned with my heart, doors started opening in my life.

One of those doors led in a direction that surprised me at the time, but looking back, it was exactly where I was meant to go. Media Coaching.

Taking my more than 30 year background of being behind the scenes in media + my “in front of the camera” experience as a bestselling author, I realized I had a different perspective to offer in the world of media coaching. No one out there was an Oprah show veteran with decades of network TV experience, who had also been interviewed on national TV. Seeing – and living – both sides of the media equation makes me uniquely qualified to teach you how to get publicity and prepare you to step into the media spotlight with clarity, confidence, and connection.

Although I enjoy my television career immensely, I never felt I had a mission. Until now. I’m able to help authors like you magnify your message in media, reach your audience, increase your credibility through visibility, and ultimately make an extraordinary impact.

This is the life I want.
