The ideas Masculine and Feminine brought together to create the sumptuous DS5 gold by Dolce & Gabbana.
Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana have once again created something truly impeccable with the development of the DS5 gold. They have been able to form a juxtaposition through the unique use of 18kt pink gold and the innovative 18kt black gold.
One cannot help to ask, what is black gold and how can this be possible? As it seems impossible when given the known traditional variations of gold. But before you can even begin to doubt your self knowledge, an explanation is formed through the understanding that the 18kt black gold is created through a process known as Physical Vapour Disposition (PVD). Whereby a number of metals are put through the process of vaporization, allowing for the creation of a tailored coloured vapour which is best suited to create the desired effect. The vapour created, is now able to attach and bind to the surface of the traditional 18kt gold. This then forms layers on the gold and is controlled in a heated vacuum ensuring the finest levels of perfection.
However, the elegant Italian expressions in the design have not overcome that of the intrinsic excellence, engineering and construction levels of the Swedish craftsmanship used to create this magnificent timepiece.
With its masculine darkened gold, the allowance for the use of an extremely complex material is created. Sapphire, which is also one of the hardest, scratch-resistant and transparent material known to man seems to the best suited option. Convex Sapphire glass has been used for both the back and front glass faces of the timepiece. The conformity in the glass is opposed to the contrasting black and pink golds which had been used highlighting the central idea of masculinity and femininity.
The DS5 has further matched the high standards found in the luxury timepiece market. With its self-winding movement, a reserve power of 42 hrs can be expected. Furthermore, the DS5 gold has a 4Hz frequency of escapement which reaches 28.800 vibrations per hour.
The light absorbing black case measures in with a diameter of 30 mm and a height of 7.9mm. In line with Demenico and Stefanos desire for opposing elements the design is translated through the sporty look and feel as a contrast to the use of elegant details such as the use of 25 rubies.
Through the use of the simple and chic 18kt golds on the casing and bracelet, in conjunction with impeccable mechanics, the DS5 gold reveals opposing ideas to a wearer whom wishes to be a little more daring and provocative in their style choices.
