Living in Humility
"And he gives grace generously. As the Scriptures say, 'God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.'" - James 4:6 NLT
Pride is a barrier to a fruitful relationship with God and others. A prideful heart, rooted in self-righteousness and arrogance, is opposed by God because it leaves no room for acknowledging our need for Him.
The Scripture is clear: "In the pride of his face the wicked does not seek him; all his thoughts are, ‘There is no God.’” (Psalm 10:4 ESV). Pride acts as a spiritual blockade that prevents us from seeking God. It is a destructive force that raises the self to the status of an idol, pushing God out of the place He should have in our lives.
Humility involves recognizing our rightful place before God and His creation. It's not about seeing ourselves as less than anyone else; rather, it’s understanding our true nature—valuable yet flawed, capable yet fundamentally dependent on God.
We should view our abilities and achievements as gifts from God, not as self-generated accomplishments. This humble perspective helps us appreciate that "though the LORD is high, He regards the lowly" (Psalm 138:6), and chooses to dwell with those who are contrite and humble in spirit (Isaiah 57:15).

James points out that conflicts and fights among believers often come from our desires that battle within us (James 4:1). Pride inflates our self-image and diminishes our regard for others, including God.
And attitude of humility requires a conscious and constant rejection of self-exaltation.
Our Lord Jesus said, "For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted" (Luke 14:11). Let us, therefore, seek to live our lives in the fear of the Lord and in humility, so that we may experience His abundant grace.
