Living Every Day With Passion
Stop! Take 30 seconds to look around at your life right now. Is it what you want it to look like? Is it all that it could be? Even if it is “pretty good”, don’t you think it could be even better?
Life has a way of going down some rather scary paths if we don’t take the reigns and guide it where we want it to go. It can lead us into bad relationships, sucky jobs, poor health, that feeling like you’re a plastic bag drifting through the wind (thanks for the simile, Katy Perry!) It can also lead us down an even more dangerous path…mediocrity.
A mediocre life makes you believe things are just okay enough to not do anything about it. It creates a sense of false security because we look around at other people who are doing just a little worse than us, and say to ourselves “well at least I’m not going through that!” But we also look around and see a lot of our friends and family, and other people around us that are doing about as well as we are, and assume that’s normal, so we keep doing what we’ve always done, never really experiencing a truly passionate life.
Now, for the next 30 seconds, I want to get you thinking about the possibilities, what your life could be if you took it to the "next level", if you made a decision to do something that’s been burning deep in your heart for years, but you always felt like it was just a silly dream. What if you stopped settling for just “okay” in your relationships, in your work, in your spiritual life? What would your world look like? How would that improve your attitude, impact your family, and instill hope in those around you that they could have a better life too?
Well, contrary to popular belief, it actually doesn’t take much to have the life of your dreams. In fact, I’ve found it only takes three things:
- Waking Up
- Making A Decision
- Taking Action
You've already completed the first one by reading this blog. Whether it’s someone else creating an inspirational piece like a movie or article that makes the hair on your arms stand on end, a tragic event like a car wreck or the death of a loved on that rocks your world, or something of your own volition, you must first be awakened from your slumber, so that you can recognize the time you’ve wasted sleeping away your life in mediocrity.
The second step is simply making a decision. It’s literally telling the synapses in your brain to start looking at your life differently, to be happy instead of miserable, to see the possibilities instead of the barriers, to think of all the ways you want to improve your life, and to actually have hope because you can! A decision is both the easiest and the most difficult thing in the world, because at first, just the idea of making this kind of decision can seem like overtaking a Sumo wrestler. It takes a complete shift in mindset, one that’s been trained over a lifetime to think a certain way. But then, each time you decide to look at your life differently, each time you refuse to be miserable about something that’s beyond your control, you're exercising a muscle that gets stronger every day, giving it power over those limiting beliefs, and paving a new trail to a better, more purposeful life.
The last thing you MUST do is take action. And not just a little bit of action, this needs to be massive, and it needs to be consistent until you've made the change you want. Taking a half-ass approach will get you nowhere and inconsistency will steal your momentum. We're taking about your LIFE here, so find something you're passionate about, and consume yourself with taking the necessary actions EACH AND EVERY DAY to make it happen!
This is what you were created for, so don't waste another second, start living your life with purpose!
