HLM’s goal is always to design and deliver a range of living accommodation that creates a diverse and vibrant student community; an enriching ‘home from home’ experience that offers value for money, is adaptable, accessible and promotes wellbeing and enables students to thrive both personally, socially and academically.

Our Thoughtful Design Toolkit underpins our work in this sector and allows us to work closely with students, academic institutions, and providers to ensure designs respond to student needs and expectations around the key themes of community, connection and adaptability.
Student Residences, University of St Andrews, St Andrews
HLM’s finely crafted design solution for the new student residences at St. Andrews University (Powell & Whitehorn Hall) creates a striking addition to the unique landscape setting on Scotland’s east coast, the graceful proportions and fine detailing sitting comfortably alongside mature tree specimens. In addition to seeking to achieve an elegant visual outcome and a positive contribution to the sense of community within the campus, both buildings also aim to deliver a new socially driven and environmentally sustainable model for student accommodation.
