What can be common between covid vaccine research centers, banking &financial entities, a large PSU hydrocarbon explorer and producer, a travel services aggregator, and an ICT services & solutions provider?
Well, all of them have tons of valuable data which can be sold to be further harnessed to gain a competitive advantage in businesses. And all of the above has been breached in the last six months.
What cannot be earned by putting in the time, research and effort can always be bought – from the underground markets.
Lok Sabha was told recently that there had been 674,021 cyber-attacks in the country this year until June 2022 — almost 3,700 cyber-attacks a day, which makes India the third most impacted by network attacks in the world.
If data is the new oil, we better take safeguards to secure it.
CERT-IN came out with a new set of directions in April which came into force in June, on which there is a continuing disagreement.
What does not help either is the low data breach literacy? Even worse, most have never checked to see or have the tools to discover if their data was compromised during one of the many reported data breaches.
Truth be told, the first reaction of those breached - is that of absolute denial !!
