Livestrong Virtual Ride Across Iowa

Sixteen years ago today, I was in surgery for my cancer recurrence. I take this opportunity to ask for your sponsorship as we ramp up to Livestrong’s Virtual Ride Across Iowa in July.

A Livestrong team has bicycled across Iowa each summer for fourteen years, raising more than $1.6 million and building lasting friendships. I joined the ride to recognize the tenth anniversary of my diagnosis back in 2013; I returned home to the beginning of Judy’s unexpected struggle with multiple myeloma.

I remain committed to riding and fundraising to make every day better for people living with cancer. The stories we hear about how Livestrong fills unmet needs and changes attitudes and lives prove that together we make a real difference.

Because of the uncertainty at planning time, Livestrong’s Iowa ride will be virtual again this summer. We’ll put in the miles wherever we are, share our progress, earn achievement badges, and reward ourselves with pie. Livestrong’s virtual ride maintains the spirit of cycling across Iowa and honors the people we love.

The team may be together virtually, but the more than 400 miles we’ll bicycle next month are very real. My friend and recent breast cancer survivor M-J and I have been training over the last month and will take on some longer New Hampshire rides together to meet the Livestrong challenges. (All this riding will also prepare me for a longer Livestrong Challenge route in Austin in October—in person once again!)
