Livestream Beyond Your Business: Showcase What Matters to Your Community
There are countless ways businesses can use livestreaming to attract new customers. From behind-the-scenes mobile videos and client interviews to product demos and AMA (Ask Me Anything) sessions, your business operations, industry expertise, and happy customers are a goldmine for live and almost-live video content.
But if your goal is to grow your customer base, foster a sense of community around your brand, and become a household name in your area, it pays to think bigger—beyond your products and services. One powerful strategy is to create a show focused on the world your customers live in.
For example, a local business can go beyond promoting its offerings by building a livestream show centered on what’s happening in its region. This approach taps into the shared interests of your audience while positioning your brand as a trusted community resource.
Why focus on the broader community? Because you’ll attract people who aren’t in the market for your products or services right now but are interested in content that reflects their lives—maybe even featuring them, their friends, or their favorite places. Over time, your business becomes top-of-mind. Whether they need what you offer or are asked for a recommendation, your name will be the first they think of.
As I discussed on Robert Kennedy III, CSP? 's Storytellin’ and Sellin’ Podcast , imagine a real estate agent hosting a show about local news and events, spotlighting area restaurants and shops, sharing a calendar of regional happenings, and interviewing everyone from city officials and business owners to local musicians, authors, and athletes. It’s not just about selling homes—it’s about celebrating the community you serve.

Chris Barrows Brings Back the 'Why I Social' Podcast
After a six-year hiatus, the Why I Social podcast returns to continue presenting captivating interviews with people from all walks of life who use social media.
The podcast launched in January 2015 and paused in July 2018, after 162 episodes. So it was much to my delight to discover episode one of season two dropped this week. There is also a new trailer in which host Chris Barrows explains why he decided to restart the podcast.
Known for its engaging conversations with people who “get social media,” the podcast stood out by featuring not just industry professionals but individuals from all walks of life using social media in innovative ways. Chris describes the first run of the show as an exploration of the diverse and personal stories behind social media use, offering perspectives “from Average Joe to CEO.”
So why bring it back now?
“The social media landscape has evolved dramatically since the podcast’s early days,” Chris explains. “We’ve seen a shift from long-form content to short-form, the rise of the creator economy, and the increasing importance of video and audio formats. It felt like the right time to return and start these conversations again.”
The return of Why I Social is sponsored by the National Institute for Social Media (NISM), whose CEO, Jennifer Radke , expressed her excitement about the partnership. “Chris built an incredible community the first time around, and we’re thrilled to be part of this next chapter.”
The new season introduces a few updates while retaining the conversational format that fans loved. Each episode will include a dedicated segment on a key business topic tailored to the guest’s expertise, followed by the classic "Five Favorites" segment where guests share their personal interests. Chris also announced plans to build a dynamic community using Discord , providing listeners a space to engage in real-time discussions about social media, business, and life.
Chris reflected on the podcast’s original mission and why it remains relevant. “Social media is about more than marketing; it’s a part of how people live, work, and connect. The stories we share this season will reflect that evolving role.” With an exciting lineup of new and returning guests, the first episode features Callie Goodwin, SMS , founder of the Sparks Of Joy Co and a certified social media strategist, who shares her inspiring journey using TikTok to grow her business.
Listeners can expect new episodes every two weeks, starting with the official launch on major platforms like Spotify , a first for the show. Chris encourages fans old and new to subscribe and join the conversation: “This is a community effort to tell stories, learn, and grow together.”
