We spend so much time looking to the future or reliving the past, we often overlook the moments we have before us now. We have to be present and live our dreams today!
Now is your moment! We have to live the life we have available to us before it is too late. So many of us live for what could be, or what we hope will be. But we are not promised tomorrow, only this moment, so what are we going to do with it?
We need to plan to act now; live now; grow now. If we do that, tomorrow will take care of itself. It is much easier to fulfil our potential if we don’t continually procrastinate the minutes and hours away waiting for just the right time. The right time is now.
What if we started doing one little thing at a time and letting those little things build into one big thing after the other, building momentum and fulfilling our dreams for tomorrow, today!
When we truly believe today that amazing things are possible and opportunities are all around us, we suddenly can accomplish more that we ever thought was possible.
As I write this I am approaching my 56th birthday. Some might call that old, but I am just getting started. I have so much life still in me and I am moving forward living each moment for all it’s worth.
I have God-given goals in front of me that I will accomplish. In fact, in the days left before my 56th birthday, I am pushing to do all I can do as I finish out this year of my life to its fullest. I feel like I am entering a new chapter and I am so excited for all that God has for me!
I have always been the kind of guy who is positive and lives in the moment, but I have moments when I am losing time, looking for a better tomorrow instead of living for a better today.
So here are four things I use to live in the moment:
- Don’t put off until tomorrow what you can do today
- Dream with a Plan to Start Now
- Put one foot in front of the other
- Don’t let disappointments be distractions
Don’t Put Off Until Tomorrow What You Can Do Today
Live your life with no regrets. My beautiful wife wrote a song called "No Regrets." The song was eye opening and so true. Whether it is with your loved ones, friends, or projects with your business, don’t put things off.
We humans are great procrastinators. If we can come up with a good excuse, we will put things off to tomorrow every time. Sometimes it is out of fear or maybe laziness, but whatever our excuse, we will find a way to put it off.
It is important to change our mindset to one of taking action now, for there is no time like the present. When we get in the habit of doing it now, we accomplish so much more and become much more successful.
Dream with a Plan to Start Now
It is great to dream, but without a plan to start now there is no purpose. This is where most people get held up… they don’t get started. You can dream all day long, but at some point you have to make a plan and implement that plan.
Without action dreams are just that fantasy, but by taking action and taking a risk, we can achieve great things. It just takes a start.
So, how do you do that? One step after the other. You need to be willing to risk and know that you will fail at times, but as John Maxwell would say, you just have to keep failing forward.
Put One Foot in Front of the Other
Forward progress now is the best way to get your momentary plans in action. We don’t always feel prepared, but we just have to get the ball rolling. We need momentum. One foot after the other is the only way to go. Move forward. When we see forward progress, it builds momentum.
Often people think they have to have it all together to do anything and that could not be further from the truth. You have to start somewhere and now is the best time.
If you dream in action, moving in a positive direction and you are genuine and truthful you are good to go. Just keep moving!
Don’t Let Disappointments Be Distractions
When you let momentary disappointments distract you from your objective it is so easy to derail your plans for the moment. But, when you are grounded in your values and purpose, disappointments become new opportunities to do something better or different.
We all need something to ground us. It is what we base our values on. I personally look to God to keep me grounded and my family to keep me on track. We all need a strong force in our lives to help us keep moving and overcome life's challenges!
Remember, others can try, but only you can derail your path. You control your choices, no matter what is going on around you. Challenges and failures will come, but if you are steadfast and grounded with a firm foundation and purpose, you will overcome challenges and failures.
So Live Your Dreams Today! Many may try to affect your life and your decisions but that is something only you can control. Don’t put off until tomorrow what you can do today. Remember, dream with a plan to start now. Put one foot in front of the other. Don’t let disappointments be distractions. Make it a great life!
