Live up to your values !!

I have started to work around 20 year ago and allot has changed since then. During interviews it was all about the company and the “fit with company values and culture”. Today we take into consideration the competition for talent, diversity & inclusion, generational gaps, candidate experience, EVP, and so on… so rapid change is taking over in a fast pace changing world.

So is there any change in companies and people personal values? 

Let’s start by the definition of as values “principles or standards of behavior "one's judgement of what is important in life”. Having this in mind how can we feel and know the values of a person or company besides expressing them, in words, written in walls, books, websites or any other way ? I would say that they are reflected either on personal or collective behaviors!

So do people and companies always live up to they values ? in big, but also smaller companies is it possible to have consistent behaviours matching your personal and collective values ? I believe that the generic answer is NO, companies are not consistent, but I’m.

Well I agree, but we should also think that we are part this companies, so why am I still in this company ? well, I need the money; It’s their problem I have given up; It’s a 9 to 5 job, don’t care; I’m always complaining and nothing happens; already looking for a job, I had 5 in the last 4 years, I’m searching for the perfect company…. I believe each person can impact in a smaller or bigger circle of people and honestly there is only one perfect company YOU, because your behaviours match your values 100% of times.

So how to deal with this at work world:

  1. Be an entrepreneur and start your own company and make sure you hire the right people;
  2. If that not an option or your choice, focus on the most relevant values that are crucial for you to be able to work in a company, and please keep it short. https://abundancecoaching.com/what-are-your-personal-values-and-why-you-want-to-know-them/
  3. Ask questions and pay attention to behaviours during the hiring process, they will unveil or at least give hints to the consistency of the company;
  4. Always meet your manager in advance and if possible have a one to one talk;
  5. Make sure your action and if you writing some policy it’s aligned with the behaviours that you want to promote;
  6. Never ever waive your values;
  7. Be resilient, and act in your influence circle in a constructive way promoting company values;
  8. Finally leave if they are unmatchable;

I never worked in a company that didn't respect or matched my core values, so I never had to leave. But things are not easy all the time, above all believe in the company were you are, make an effort and enjoy!!
