The seventh occasion on the schedule for the fourth time of the Sail GP Dashing raises a ruckus around town in Abu Dhabi beginning today. Each group hopes to get out to serious areas of strength for a today with the season crossing the midway imprint in the timetable. Heading into this race Group Australia is leading the pack with 52 focuses generally, 11 focuses in front of Group Rockwool Nook and 10 focuses in front of Group New Zealand up to this point this season. Group Australia has ruled Sail GP Hustling winning the initial three seasons as they seek make it four for four this season. They should hold off an extreme gathering of groups behind them in the standings.

The Season 4 event will see the return of popular fan experiences, including an enlarged Race Stadium, grandstand seating area and the exclusive Platinum Lawn. For the first time ever in Christchurch, fans will also be able to purchase behind-the-scenes tours of SailGP’s team bases and technical areas.

Christchurch Mayor Phil Mauger said, “It’s fantastic to welcome SailGP back to the city in 2024 for this bonus season. This just proves that Christchurch is increasingly seen as the sports and events capital of New Zealand. This year’s event was brilliant, and it was great that Whakaraupō Lyttelton Harbour was seen around the world in all its glory.

“I’m sure people will get right behind this event once again. I really want to thank Te Hapū o Ngāti Wheke Rāpaki, SailGP and ChristchurchNZ for making this happen, this partnership is why we will see SailGP return in 2024.”

New Zealand Major Events Manager Kylie Hawker-Green said, “The inaugural ITM New Zealand Sail Grand Prix held in Whakaraupō, Lyttelton Harbour earlier this year provided spectators with incredible racing, and we look forward to seeing Christchurch build on that success in 2024.

Halifax has been selected as the first Canadian city to host a SailGP event next year.

The inaugural ROCKWOOL Canada Sail Grand Prix will take place June 1-2, 2024 on Halifax Harbour between the Macdonald bridge and Georges Island.

The Nova Scotia capital, along with Montreal, Victoria and Kingston, Ont., were shortlisted last year as the four Canadian cities vying for hosting rights during the 2023-24 season.

SailGP is an international sailing competition which uses high performance F50 foiling catamarans capable of speeds of nearly 100 km/h. Ten international teams compete across a season of multiple grands prix around the world.

“It is really exciting that we will add yet another new city to our Season 4 lineup and finally be able to have our first event in Canada," SailGP CEO Russell Coutts said in a news release. "It’s something that we have been working on for a long time ... and we know in Halifax we have a really engaged audience. The venue is set up well for our stadium racing, allowing the fans to get a very close view of the action.

“I can’t think of a better stop for our first Canadian Sail Grand Prix and can’t wait to see the F50’s racing on Halifax Harbour.

This will mark the first time the event has come to Canadian waters.

Teams from Canada – with driver Phil Robertson and Dartmouth resident Tim Hornsby among the crew - Australia, Denmark, France, Germany, Great Britain, New Zealand, Spain, Switzerland and the United States compete in the international sailing regatta.

“We can’t wait to see the most exciting racing in our harbour,” Sail Nova Scotia president Eric Hill said, “and know it will inspire the sailors and non-sailors of today and tomorrow.”

THREE NOVA SCOTIANS NAMED TO YOUTH SAILING WORLDS TEAM

Sullivan Nakatsu of Hammonds Plains, Bald Rock’s Johanna Pickart and Rebecca Driscoll of Glen Haven have been selected to Sail Canada’s 12-member team that will represent the country at the 2023 Youth Sailing World Championships, Dec. 8-16 in Buzios, Brazil.

Nakatsu, of the Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron, will sail in the men’s ILCA 6 while Pickart (RNSYS) and Chester Yacht Club’s Driscoll will team in the women’s 29er event.

Join the action at the Abu Dhabi waterfront to witness natural born racers as they harness the elemental power of nature to fly across the water in next level F50 racing boats.

After about a month off following the SailGP Dubai event, the teams will be back in the water to kick off the home stretch of the 2023-24 season. New Zealand will be hoping to build upon its first-place finish in Dubai as it tries to close the gap between itself and Australia at the top of the standings.

Australia begins 2024 with an 11-point lead over second-place ROCKWOOL Denmark, and it has to hang onto that lead for seven more races. That is more than enough time for another team to surge and give the Australians a run for their money down the stretch.
