Live the story you want to tell!
While listening to Elle M's presentation, the first thing I felt was that I was not alone or that I was not an alien. Because when we face challenges in life, we often think that everything is always happening to us and that we are the unluckiest people in the world. But when we see someone else facing a lot of obstacles in their life and see how they overcome them, we begin to feel a power inside of us. That was what I felt during the presentation.
I took some notes from this beautiful and inspirational presentation.
1- You will win in the end if you just be yourself!
Sometimes it can be difficult to understand ourselves or to know what we really want. Or we may have to do certain things in life, but even in such situations, being ourselves will lead us to success.
2- Never give up!
There will be many challenges on the path you walk. Think of all these as lessons for you and never give up on the path you are going.
3- Know when to say no and when to say yes!
If something doesn't make you happy or doesn't make you think you are developing, say no to it. But if you have to do something you have never tried before, you don't have to say no, try to enjoy it. Maybe that's the experience of your life...

4- Live the story you want to tell!
You have to live the story you want to tell first. If today were the last day of your life, could you say that you have lived the best life you could? You should live each day as if it were the best day of your life, thinking about this.
Seven months ago, I left my job, friends, and family behind and moved to Toronto. I had a dream and I knew it wouldn't be easy, but I was willing to take the risk. As a newcomer, Elle M.'s presentation deeply impacted me because changing my entire life, leaving everything I was used to behind, and being 8,188 km away from my family and friends at times made me feel insecure. Now, I have a long road ahead of me and, of course, there will be some challenges along the way. This presentation helped me to discover some things about myself. For example, I realized that when I was searching for jobs, I was only looking in areas where I had experience. There was a voice in my head telling me that it's easier to find a job if you have experience in the field. But that wasn't my goal. I was taking courses in digital media marketing after working in offline media, and I had many options, why limit myself to just a few jobs? After all, I had traveled thousands of kilometers to do what I wanted to do. In the future, I plan to set clearer and more specific goals and continue on my path, just like Elle said, I will never give up being myself.
During my job search, I will focus on having more confidence in myself and my stronger skills. I won't be afraid to try new things and take advantage of all opportunities to discover skills I didn't know I had.
In my work term, I will be more outgoing and active in order to achieve success. Leaving my comfort zone and adding new skills to my repertoire will be an important experience for me and, even if I'm rejected, I'll know that it's not so bad and that better options are waiting for me somewhere else.
The workshop also covered the importance of networking. I feel very lucky to be a part of George Brown College, which has many great opportunities such as this presentation. I learned a lot about networking from Elle M. and it reminded me to have closer relationships with my professors so I can gain valuable information from their experiences, and to take advantage of the many other opportunities at GBC, such as clubs and services.
