Live Moore: Haunted Hotels

I love the idea of a haunted hotel. If traveling, I always try and stay in a haunted hotel and a specific room if possible. So far, I have never seen a ghost or felt a spirit in one, but I keep trying. There are dozens and dozens of purportedly haunted hotels in America. Richard and I recently had lunch at our favorite haunted hotel, The Stanley in Estes Park, Colorado, where Stephen King stayed while writing? The Shining.?Stanley and his wife are known to haunt the place. Here are just five of my favorite haunts that I have visited:?

  1. Omni Parker House, Boston (1855) Boston, Massachusetts: Guest reports seeing Mr. Harvey Parker walking the hall to ensure everything is up to his standard. Make sure and order the Parker House Roll and Boston Cream Pie, which was created there.?
  2. Hotel Monteleone (1886) New Orleans, Louisiana: This property has a maid, Mrs. Clean, haunting the room. She reportedly “cleans up” after housekeeping.?
  3. Concord’s Colonial Inn (1716) Concord, Massachusetts: I love this property. Make sure and stay in room 424, which was once the operating room during the Revolutionary War.?
  4. The Seelbach Hilton (1905) Louisville, Kentucky: Legend has it that a bride threw herself down the elevator shaft after hearing her fiancé died on the way to their wedding. She haunts the halls still.?
  5. The Red Lion Inn (1773) Stockbridge, Massachusetts: You have probably heard about this one on tv. It has a young girl ghost carrying flowers, and a man in a top hat” seen standing in the bedrooms. Request room #301.?

Other properties you might consider are The Omni Grove Park Inn in Asheville; LaFonda, in Sante Fe; Francis Marion in Charleston; and the Don CeSar in St. Pete.?
