Live the moment - Top clicks from 2024
Continuing the tradition from 2023, it's that time of the year to unveil my critically acclaimed ?? photographs once again.
This year, my photography journey took me across six incredible countries, capturing cityscapes and landscapes from Singapore, the Philippines, India, Malaysia, Indonesia and Australia. Each destination offered its unique charm and inspiration, and I’m thrilled to share these snapshots.
A little bit of technicalities before we jump in: Most of the photos featured in this collection were captured using a Canon 5D Mark III paired with a 24-105mm lens, which offers versatility for both cityscapes and landscapes. The f-stop, ISO, and shutter speed were carefully adjusted to suit the lighting conditions, scene composition, and the desired mood for each shot. For cityscapes, I often used a wider aperture (f/2.8 to f/5.6) in low-light situations to capture the vibrant city lights, balancing it with an ISO range of 400-3200 as need be. Faster shutter speeds (e.g., 1/250s to 1/500s) were employed to freeze motion, such as in bustling urban environments. For landscapes, a smaller aperture (f/8 to f/16) was used to ensure sharpness from foreground to background, with ISO set to 100-400 for crisp, noise-free details. Slower shutter speeds (e.g., 1/5s) allowed me to capture the smoothness of water and dramatic skies, ensuring each photograph conveyed the intended mood and atmosphere.
Please note these are in no specific order of preference here. All these photos brought me either beautiful memories or contentment in the now.

1. Sydney Harbour Bridge and the twin Gum trees
While admiring the majestic Sydney Harbour Bridge from the park across the river, my gaze was drawn to the two gum trees standing gracefully in the foreground. These silent sentinels, rooted in the lush greenery, seem as though they’ve been quietly watching over the bridge for decades, witnessing its strength and splendor across the flowing waters.
The reason it made to my top photographs is because, these two trees brought to mind a cherished story my late grandmother used to tell me as a kid — 'the legend of Nalakuvera and Manigreeva'. According to Indian legends, these two celestial beings were cursed to live as trees due to their arrogance but were ultimately liberated by the divine touch of Lord Krishna. 2. Merlion, Singapore
During the vibrant festivities of the Formula 1 weekend in Singapore, I captured this strikingly colorful version of the iconic Merlion. While I’ve seen the Merlion many times before, this unique, illuminated form stood out, adding a festive and creative twist to the familiar landmark.
The Merlion, a mythical creature with the head of a lion and the body of a fish, is deeply intertwined with Singapore's history and identity. Its lion head symbolizes Singapore's original name, Singapura, meaning "Lion City," while its fish body represents the country’s humble beginnings as a fishing village. Click here to read more.
3. Petronas Twin Tower, Kuala Lumpur
While I’ve captured many shots of these iconic towers from the ground up, this was the first time I photographed them from the top floors. The perspective from above, showcasing the intricate design of the tower alongside the stunning cityscape, was truly breathtaking. This photograph of the Petronas Twin Towers holds a special place in my heart, as it reminds me of a short yet memorable trip with my parents.
4. Opera House, Sydney
This set of photographs captures a beautiful sunrise at the Sydney Opera House, a dream come true for any photographer. The soft golden light of the morning highlights the iconic sails, making the architectural masterpiece look even more stunning.
The Sydney Opera House, completed in 1973 and designed by Danish architect J?rn Utzon, is one of the most famous landmarks in the world. Its unique design, inspired by seashells, has made it a symbol of creativity and culture in Australia.
Photographing this view at sunrise adds a special touch, bringing out the beauty and elegance of this incredible structure as it greets the start of a new day.
5. Cloud Forest and Gardens
The Cloud Forest and Gardens by the Bay in Singapore are must-visit attractions that showcase the beauty of nature and cutting-edge design. The Cloud Forest features a misty dome with a breathtaking indoor waterfall and exotic plants from all over the world, offering visitors a serene and enchanting experience.
Gardens by the Bay, with its iconic Supertree Grove and vibrant floral displays, creates a magical atmosphere, especially when the lights come alive at night. Together, they offer a perfect blend of natural beauty and architectural brilliance.
6. Bolte Bridge, Melbourne
This is the Bolte Bridge, one of Melbourne’s iconic landmarks, captured beautifully at night. Spanning the Yarra River, it connects the Docklands to Melbourne’s western suburbs.
The bridge’s two tall towers, glowing with vibrant lights, make it instantly recognizable and a favorite spot for photographers. Completed in 1999, it’s an important part of Melbourne’s transport network. This view, with the shimmering reflections on the water, perfectly highlights the bridge’s modern design and the city’s nighttime charm.
7. Batu Caves, Kuala Lumpur
The Batu Caves in Malaysia are a breathtaking spiritual site dedicated to Lord Murugan, with its towering 140-foot statue standing as a symbol of faith and strength. Climbing the 272 steps and entering the serene temple brought back personal memories of a Murugan temple in my hometown and the famous Palani temple. Visiting Batu Caves felt like I have connected back.
8. Taal Lake, Tagaytay, Philippines
This photograph captures the stillness of Taal Lake in Tagaytay, a scene that appears serene and tranquil at first glance. However, not all that looks peaceful is truly so. The soft haze over the water, which could easily be mistaken for mist, is actually volcanic ash drifting from the nearby Taal Volcano.
Tagaytay, located approximately 60 kilometers south of Manila, offers stunning views of Taal Lake and its volcano. Just two days after this photograph was taken, the volcano began releasing more ash into the atmosphere, leading to school closures and heightened precautions. This moment serves as a reminder that nature, while beautiful and calming, often conceals its immense power beneath a seemingly tranquil exterior.

9. Singapore River
The Singapore River is a key part of Singapore’s history, reflecting its journey from a small fishing village to a global city. In the 19th century, the river was a bustling trading hub, with wooden bumboats transporting goods like spices, rubber, and tin.
In the 1970s, a major project led by the government transformed it into a clean, beautiful waterway. Today, the river is surrounded by lively areas like Boat Quay, Clarke Quay, and Robertson Quay.
This photo shows the peaceful flow of the river, with its boat cruises and the towering skyline, a perfect mix of Singapore’s rich past and vibrant present.
10. Lost in Thought
This curious monkey, perched quietly amidst the lush greenery, seems to be deep in thought, observing the world around it with a serene yet alert expression. The natural habitat in the background reflects the delicate balance between wildlife and human environments.
This moment serves as a reminder of the importance of respecting the rights of animals. Every creature deserves the freedom to thrive in its natural habitat without harm or interference. As we share this planet with them, it is our responsibility to ensure their safety, protect their homes, and coexist harmoniously. Through such images, we are reminded of the beauty and value of wildlife and the urgent need to conserve it.
11. Transportation: Melbourne Metro
The trams of Melbourne are more than just a mode of transport; they’re a symbol of the city’s character and charm. With a network that spans the heart of the city and its suburbs, Melbourne boasts the largest urban tram system in the world.
These trams, some adorned with colorful designs and advertisements, glide along the bustling streets, offering an eco-friendly and convenient way to explore the city. The historic City Circle Tram is a favorite among tourists, providing a free ride around Melbourne's key landmarks while echoing the city’s rich heritage.
12. Helensburgh & Kiama, NSW
Helensburgh, just south of Sydney, is a charming town known for its natural beauty and history. A highlight is the Helensburgh Tunnel, an abandoned railway tunnel famous for its glow worms. It's a great spot for photography and nature walks. The town is also close to the Royal National Park, offering scenic bushwalks and waterfalls, perfect for a peaceful escape.
Kiama, further down the coast, is a beautiful seaside town best known for the Kiama Blowhole, one of the largest in the world. With stunning beaches, the Kiama Coastal Walk, and its historic lighthouse, it’s a great spot for a relaxing day out. The town’s cafes and coastal views make it a favorite for visitors.
Both towns offer unique attractions, making them perfect for a short getaway from the city.

"Friendship" captures the beauty of shared moments bathed in the soft glow of sunrise. The silhouettes of friends gathered together evoke a sense of warmth and connection, standing as a testament to the quiet power of companionship. In this serene light, the simplicity of togetherness shines brighter than any words could express.

16. Roots
As I look back on this year's photography journey, I realize how much my roots have influenced the way I see the world. Growing up in a place full of color, beauty, and creativity—whether it’s through vibrant festivals, lush landscapes, or the art around me—it's no surprise that I’m drawn to capturing those elements in my photos. Kerala’s culture has a way of shaping your appreciation for the little details and the beauty that’s everywhere, and that’s something I try to bring into every shot.
With gratitude for a year well lived! And prayers in memory of those who left us for their next playground.
I have felt nothing ever like the wild wonder of that moment. ~Rumi
